Viewing women’s vote history up to August 31

For community members interested in learning more about the history of women’s suffrage and suffrage in Wisconsin, “We Stand On Their Shoulders,” a traveling exhibit at the public library could be instructive.

The exhibit will be at 500 Silent St. August 3-31.

The exhibit explores times when Wisconsin women won political rights and highlights a few key leaders, according to the library’s website.

Across eight panels, it covers the Ratification of the 19th Amendment, the Wisconsin Equal Rights Act of 1921, the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the website says.

The exhibit “shares the important story of women’s quest for political rights and recognition through quotes, photographs and a timeline of events,” adds the library’s website.

Join the Upper Sugar River Watershed Association at Badger Mill Creek on County Rd J for a dragonfly monitor meet. Upper Sugar Board Chairman Robert Bohanan will help you identify dragonflies found around the pond and answer all your monitoring questions.

Seussical musical auditions

Horton the Elephant, the Hat Cat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters come to life on stage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastic musical extravaganza.

Auditions are open to young people from the 3rd year (from the school year 2021/2022) until the age of 11 (on 08/21/21).

Ni hao and hello! It’s ‘Back to School’ outdoor story time in Chinese and English with the Verona Region International School (VAIS) and the Verona Public Library. Don’t miss this special back-to-school event featuring “The Bus for Us” by Suzanne Bloom with songs, language practice and a take-out craft. All ages are welcome. Find a circle on the ground for your family’s space, so you can stay away from others.

“Caravan are a traveling acoustic instrumental jazz band from Madison, Wisconsin. They are mainly influenced by the legendary gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. The ensemble is also inspired by American swing, jazz, Latin, Parisian waltz, European folk and other sources of vintage jazz.

Rob’s Sugar River Hike

7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday August 22

Connect with the Upper Sugar River Watershed by land and water as you travel through rolling countryside starting at Mount Horeb, then paddle the sparkling Sugar River until you reach your destination near Paoli. After the event, return to Mount Horeb with your other attendees for a local feast, beer tasting, and entertainment from 11am to 2pm.

The Paoli Farmer’s Market is back on the banks of the Sugar River.

The event, which takes place at Paoli Mill, 6890 Paoli Road, is scheduled for Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until fall, according to the Visit Paoli Facebook page.

Products such as honey, dressings, cheeses, caramels and cookies are available from vendors. Beer is available at Hop Garden and breakfast burritos are prepared by Molino Taqueria. There will also be live music every week on a stage, according to the Hop Garden’s Facebook page.

“Singer-songwriter John Gay matured his contemplative sound in prison while serving a nine-year sentence for marijuana that began in 2011. During his initial imprisonment of over five years when he wasn’t on his bunk with his bible, John was in a closet at Fox Lake Correctional Facility with his guitar, writing music, singing and praying.
