Factories are looking to reduce the heat of the sheep trade this week, with meat processing factories looking to keep their cards close to their chest once again – as quotes are very hard to come by.

Quotes at some factories have fallen 5 to 20 cents / kg from late last week as Eid al-Adha purchases ended, being a driver of price hikes over the past two years. weeks.

Quotes today (Tuesday July 20) range from 6.10 to 6.15 € / kg, which comes down to 20 cents / kg compared to the end of last week. However, the quotes are only from certain meat processing plants.

The highest prices on Monday for lambs appeared to be between € 6.40-6.50 / kg, which was again back from reported prices of up to € 6.70-6.75 / kg towards the end of last week.

The sheep trade appears to be unchanged, with factories continuing to price € 3.30 / kg for ewes, with some factories also offering a guaranteed quality premium (QA) of 10 cents / kg.

The highest prices for ewes continue to be between 3.30 and 3.50 € / kg – depending on what Agriland heard.

“Lamb prices go up from 10 to 20 c / kg”

Taking stock of the current sheep trade, Sean McNamara, chairman of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Breeders Association (ICSA), said the factories had decided to cut prices by 10 to 20 cents / kg since the end of last week.

He added, “The trade is making a slight comeback, but overall it’s pretty stable. Prices are back, you could say 10-20c / kg, with top prices between 6.40-6.50 € / kg.

“Factories are always hungry for supplies but are not prepared to pay the high prices we saw last week.

“The sheep trade is more or less the same, with prices ranging from 3.30 to 3.40 € / kg. ”

Sean added that farmers with beautiful ewe lambs should head to the market with them as there is a strong demand from farmers for quality ewe lambs with the intention of raising them.
