Sergio Garcia’s latest quotes on LIV Golf will probably make you laugh
Sergio Garcia has decided to break away from the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf because it’s “the future of golf”.
Garcia, who has now resigned from his PGA Tour membership, had a stellar career on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour winning 36 times as a professional, highlighted by a major win at the 2017 Masters.
But now, at 42, Garcia is ready to see his golfing career in the Saudi-funded LIV Golf Invitational series with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line.
Garcia recently made it very clear how he felt about the PGA Tour when he threw a strop on the golf course.
Joining Greg Norman’s controversial new circuit now brings into question whether the all-time leading Ryder Cup scorer will ever again be able to play or captain in the biennial competition against the United States.

“I did it because I think it’s the future of golf, because I think it’s a great opportunity, not just to do what I love, which is to play golf, but at the same time being able to spend more time with my family and watch them grow,” Garcia said of why he moved to LIV Golf.
“I have a four-year-old and a two-year-old, so it’s nice to see them grow up as much as possible. I’ve been doing this for 24 years, so I travel a lot and stuff, and make a good living outside of that.”
Everything is fine now.
But how will Sergio react in 2024 when LIV asks its players to compete in 14 specific weeks of the year?
Garcia then explained what he finds so special about a shotgun start for 48 players on 12 teams over three rounds.
“It brings something different to the game that we haven’t had in forever,” said Garcia, who captains the Fire Balls team of LIV Golf debutants Abraham Ancer, Carlos Ortiz and Eugenio Chacarra.
“Almost all the tournaments you play on tour are the same so it’s good to have something that brings together different concepts because you have the individual but at the same time you have the team event and that brings different relationships you build and things like that and different goals.
“For me as a captain and as a LIV Golf player, it’s obviously very exciting.”
