Every corner of this country has its own regional flare and cultural sayings, but none are as distinct, historically rich, and darn fun as those in the South. As an ordinary northerner (I moved to the southern Pacific Northwest), it opened my eyes the first time I heard most of the people around me speak with the familiar accent of the south and downright confusing the first time I heard someone say, “Maybe I could …”! Whether or not you are currently a resident of one of the states south of Mason Dixon, or just remembering your younger years or your family time, reading these sayings will make you want to cook a lot. of cookies, pour another glass of sweet tea while swinging on a porch, or stroll down a moss-drenched alley. You know you heard those church ladies at the Sunday potluck say, “Bless her heart…†like you ran away from your mom when you got in trouble. Those lyrics are sure to bring back loads of memories and a ton of laughs and of course, some Southern pride.
