The United Nations Human Rights Council, a conclave of 47 nations that includes such notorious human rights violators as China, Cuba, Libya and Saudi Arabia, met in Geneva on Friday, to question the United States about its human rights failings.

It heard, among other things, that the U.S. discriminates against Muslims, that its police are barbaric and that it has been holding political prisoners behind bars for years.

China, Cuba, Libya, and Saudi Arabia are scolding the US on human rights failings?

Maybe one of those blue-helmeted jack-booted thugs from the UN will come to my house where I can show them one of my Human Rights … guaranteed by the Second Amendment. You know, give them an explanation that’s 7.62mm wide and 39mm long, repeated 1000 times.

Is there any reason to continue giving taxpayer money to the UN?

The Free Gaza movement is sending another solidarity ship to the Strip, due this time to the major Israeli attacks. The four previous voyages have set sail in solidarity to the million and a half residents under siege.

On board the ship expected to set sail on Monday are four physicians. Among them is Dr. Elena Theoharous, a surgeon and member of Cypriot parliament. Former United States Congresswoman and Green Party candidate Cynthia McKinney will also be making the voyage. And local hero, Al Jazeera correspondent formerly imprisoned in Guantanamo, Sami Al Hajj, is also expected.

Then:

A group of international activists said it would defy an Israeli blockade and send a boat with medical supplies to Gaza from Cyprus.

Free Gaza Group spokeswoman Caoimhe Butterly said their 20-meter yacht Dignity would leave Larnaca port around 5 p.m. (1400GMT) Monday with 3.5 tons of donated supplies.

She said the yacht would carry 16 passengers, including former US Congresswoman Cynthia Mckinney, Cypriot lawmaker and doctor Eleni Theocharous and activists from Britain, Australia, Ireland and Tunisia.

And then:

A boat that was carrying international peace activists and medical supplies to Gaza sailed into a Lebanese port on Tuesday after being turned back by the Israeli navy, organizers of the trip said.

The boat, which set off from Cyprus Monday wanted to make a statement and deliver medical supplies to Gaza. The trip’s organizers said the boat was clearly in international waters, 90 miles off the coast of Gaza, at the time of its close encounter with the Israeli navy.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said the boat ignored an Israeli radio order to turn back early Tuesday.

Palmor says the boat tried to outmaneuver an Israeli navy ship and crashed into it, which lightly damaged both vessels. The navy then escorted the boat out into the territorial waters of Cyprus.

The 66-foot yacht Dignity, flying the flag of Gibraltar, left Larnaca Monday with almost 4 tons of Cypriot-donated supplies and 16 passengers, including former US Representative Cynthia McKinney, Cypriot lawmaker Eleni Theocharous and activists from Britain, Australia, Ireland and Tunisia, organizers said.

Hamas ended the cease-fire and rained rockets down on Israel, accompanied by mortars and the occasional attempt at a cross-border ground attack.

Israel did nothing. The rest of the planet yawned.

Hamas tells Israel that it is weak, confused, and helpless. And so more people are recruited, West Bank Palestinians look on with admiration at those fighting the enemy, and the Arabic-speaking world is impressed.

But then Israel does fight back. Its planes bomb military targets which have been deliberately put amid civilians. If there is a high danger of hitting civilians, Israel doesn’t attack. But there is a line below which risk that will be taken, and rightly so.

And now the planet begins to take notice? Casualty figures are announced by Hamas, and accepted by reporters who are not on the spot. Everyone hit is, of course, a civilian. Hamas has no soldiers, right?

Arab-sympathetic, or Israel-hating, photographers take pictures of children who pretend to be injured, and once they are published in Western newspapers these claims become fact.

Hamas is the aggressor. Hamas intentionally targets civilians. Hamas purposely hides its weapons within civilian residential areas. Yet Cynthia McKinney is willing to enter this volatile area to offer aid to Hamas, not Israel?

McKinney has long hated all things Israel while admiring all things Arab. I can only hope that she accidentally walks in front of an IDF tank while it’s screaming across Gaza.

McKinney is one person for which I will shed no tear when she no longer breathes.

Last year, the United Nations Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights declared that international human rights law requires all nations to adopt strict gun control laws. These “minimum” provisions are much more restrictive than any of those on the books anywhere in the U.S. and would almost certainly violate the Second Amendment of our Constitution.

Besides concluding that all nations are obligated under international human rights law to control the small arms and light weapons to which its civilian population has access, the UN report remarkably denied the existence of any human right to self-defense, evidently overlooking the work of Hugo Grotius, the 17th century scholar credited as the founder of international law, who wrote, “It is to be observed that [the] Right of Self-Defence, arises directly and immediately from the Care of our own Preservation, which Nature recommends to every one. . . ,” and that this right is so primary, that it cannot be denied on the basis that it is not “expressly set forth.”

There is another disturbing aspect to this call for international global gun control. Throughout modern history, the forced disarmament of people by its government has often been accompanied or followed by that government’s commission of often massive human rights abuses. In fact, no genocide in the 20th century occurred when the victim population still possessed small arms, legally or illegally, with which to defend themselves.

So now the UN wants to disarm civilians? Where was the UN when the massacres in Rwanda occurred? What did the UN do to protect the victims of ethnic massacres in Bosnia? Disarming civilians under the guise of international human rights law will only lead to more such genocides by ensuring that civilians can never defend themselves! It would be funny if it weren’t so perverse.

Thankfully, the Framers of our Constitution recognized this potential peril to our liberty, and enshrined in our Second Amendment the more basic right of self-defense. The U.N. can say what it likes about other countries’ citizens’ possession of small arms being a violation of human rights law, but so long as the United States is a sovereign nation governed by its Constitution, its words will have no effect here. And I am glad for it.

Or would you rather vote for Comrade Hillary, someone that wants to edit and modify our Constitution to suit her wishes and ambitions?

Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet’s recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human- induced—cause, according to one scientist’s controversial theory.

Ahhh, they just HAD to throw in the word “controversial” when referring to someone not blaming humans for the upcoming worldwide disaster heralded by the High Holy Goracle that is global warming. They wouldn’t dare use that word when referring to someone actually believing the hype, would they? But let’s continue:

Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.

In 2005 data from NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide “ice caps” near Mars’s south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.

Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of the St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.

“The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars,” he said.

Abdussamatov believes that changes in the sun’s heat output can account for almost all the climate changes we see on both planets.

Yep, here we have another scientist (not someone who’s claim to fame is an unsuccessful bid for the White House) that says any climate change is due to normal cyclical solar activity, not evil Republicans driving their SUVs. Unless, of course, you are one of those moonbats that think the CO2 emissions belching out of those SUVs can travel the 150 million miles, in a vacuum no less, between Earth and Mars.

Abdussamatov’s work, however, has not been well received by other climate scientists.

“His views are completely at odds with the mainstream scientific opinion,” said Colin Wilson, a planetary physicist at England’s Oxford University.

“And they contradict the extensive evidence presented in the most recent IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] report.”

Wilson’s first statement is patently incorrect. It should read “His views are completely at odds with the mainstream LIBERAL opinion.” And his second statement is laughable, because how many of us still consider the pronouncements coming out of the UN to have any validity whatsoever? Not only Earth, but now the planet Mars sorely needs the salvation brought by the High Holy Goracle, inventor of the Internet, solver of Global Worming, Oscar winner, and Bubba’s cigar holder. Somehow Mars’ impending doom just has to be Bush’s fault. We frequently read that, “the vast majority of climate scientists agree that…” To get most scientists to agree that water is wet would be difficult enough, but consensus on something as complex as anthropogenic climate change would be downright impossible. Few recent surveys of active climatologists have addressed greenhouse warming and its impact. One, after the release of the first report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 1990, demonstrated that there is a wide range of opinion on critical issues. For example, most survey respondents agreed that the climate models do not accurately depict the ocean atmosphere system. Similarly, a majority agreed it was not possible to attribute the observed warming of about 0.5oC since 1890 to human impacts. Five years later, scientists still can’t agree on how much of this warming was caused by humans. In reality, one should be careful about giving too much weight to the majority opinions of scientists on any given topic at any given time. Science generally advances through revolution of ideas, not by popular opinion.

• Only 13 percent of the scientists responding to a survey conducted by the environmental organization Greenpeace believe catastrophic climate change will result from continuing current patterns of energy use.
• More than 100 noted scientists, including the former president of the National Academy of Sciences, signed a letter declaring that costly actions to reduce greenhouse gases are NOT justified by the best available evidence.
• While atmospheric carbon dioxide has increased by 28 percent over the past 150 years, human-generated carbon dioxide could have played only a small part in any warming, since most of the warming occurred prior to 1940 — before most human-caused carbon dioxide emissions.
• Atmospheric carbon dioxide levels, currently only 350 parts per million have been over 18 times higher in the past at a time when cars, factories and power stations did not exist — levels rise and fall without mankind’s help.
• 96.5% of all carbon dioxide emissions are from natural sources, mankind is responsible for only 3.5%, with 0.6% coming from fuel to move vehicles, and about 1% from fuel to heat buildings.
• There are nearly 18,000 signatures from scientists worldwide on a petition called The Oregon Petition which says that there is no evidence for man-made global warming theory nor for any impact from mankind’s activities on climate.

OK, so I took a few days off from reality. I had a simple medical procedure done Monday, and I’ve been “offline” (both mentally and physically) for the last couple of days while this blog has been running on autopilot.

And I “come back to reality” to discover that, according to quite a number of people around the world, the Holocaust never happened.

Wow. At first I thought I simply had too many narcotics still running through my veins. But, alas, not so, for this is the state of world events today.

• The conference has 67 participants from 30 countries.
• Iran banned any dissenting voices from Holocaust conference by not issuing visas to them.
• Former US Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke attended Iran’s Holocaust conference.
• French writer Georges Thiel, who had been convicted of Holocaust denial (a crime) in France, attended.
• An Israeli Arab lawyer, Khaled Muhammed, was denied permission to attend the conference by Iran after the discovery of his holding Israeli citizenship.

The goal of the conference was to discuss the reality of the Nazis’ extermination of Jews during the World War II. My question is “why?” Why is it so necessary for someone that detests Israel to hold a conference concerning something that happened to the Israelis 60 years ago?

David Duke gave a speech in which he said: “In Europe you can freely question, ridicule and deny Jesus Christ.” “The same is true for the prophet Muhammad, and nothing will happen to you. But offer a single question of the smallest part of the Holocaust and you face prison.” Actually this is not quite true. Sure, people have been mocking Christianity with impunity for generations. But by drawing a few cartoons about Muhammad you get riots and bloodshed across Europe and the Middle East. Just being accused of flushing a copy of the Quran down the toilet (even though the act never actually happened) and you get riots and bloodshed across Europe and the Middle East. Has anyone heard about Salman Rushdie and the accompanying death threats and fatwa by Islamic leader Ruhollah Khomeini (ironically the Big Boss of Iran for many years)? And don’t forget that Islam is the only faith that includes death as the punishment for leaving the faith.

But this conference is not simply to make headlines. Ahmadinejad does not recognize the 1967 borders – or any borders – for a Jewish state. He has said that the Holocaust was a myth and has called for the destruction of the State of Israel. He uses Holocaust denial to eradicate the moral basis for Israel’s existence, and even says so openly. That was the explicit explanation that the Iranian foreign minister gave for why it is necessary to discuss the “myth” of the Holocaust right now. Iran is helping make clear that the “Arab-Israeli conflict” is not about borders, settlements or refugees, but about the radical Islamist refusal to accept the right of a Jewish state to exist in any shape or form. The Iranian conference illustrates the linkage between Holocaust denial and Israel denial. But don’t be too angry at either Ahmadinejad or Iran – they simply have the courage to say and do openly what millions of other Arabs are saying and doing quietly, as well as millions of Europeans and Americans.

In 1922 a policy was ratified by a vote of the League of Nations, which gave the British a mandate over Palestine with the express purpose of creating a “Jewish national home.” The justice of this – decades before the Holocaust – became more obvious as the world came to recognize more than a dozen new Arab states at about the same time it accepted one Jewish state, Israel. While most of the new Arab states had no national historical antecedents, the Jewish state, of course, did. The capital of Israel became Jerusalem, the city that King David established as his capital some 3,000 years before, where the First and Second Temples had stood for approximately 1,000 years, and toward which Jews had prayed for 2,000 years. The point of Iran’s “study conference” is to argue that Israel is an alien colonial implant. Actually, the Jewish state could not be more indigenous to this area, and its revival represents perhaps the greatest example of restorationist justice in history.

And don’t forget that the League of Nations mentioned above was the precursor to today’s Turtle Bay joke: The United Nations. So what did UN boss Kofi Anan have to say about the conference?

Hmmm, maybe they will issue a couple dozen tersely worded statements that will surely accomplish much. No, wait, this is a conference against Israel – the UN will therefore more likely send Iran another $1 billion in “humanitarian aid” while once again pushing Israel to completely surrender and go away.

In opening remarks, Manouchehr Mottaki said: “If the official version of the Holocaust is thrown into doubt, then the identity and nature of Israel will be thrown into doubt. If… it is proved that the Holocaust was a historical reality, then what is the reason for the Palestinians having to pay the cost of the Nazis’ crimes?”

Wow, what a win-win situation for the Islamists. (1) No Holocaust, then no reason for Israel to exist, or (2) If Holocaust, then OK but ship them out of the Arab area since they don’t belong there.

Let’s turn this around just a bit for all you cross-eyed anti-Israel Liberals here in the US: let’s create a a win-win situation for Americans. (1) No Slavery, then no reason for blacks to exist, or (2) If Slavery , then OK but ship them out of the US since they don’t belong here. See, we can have as much fun as Herr Ahmadinejad.

There are more historical documents describing the Holocaust than there are any existence of Muhammad. Hmmm, maybe Muhammad never really existed either? After all, the true reason the Holy Lands were conquered by Muslims was to liberate them from Scientology’s servants of Xenu, as commanded in the most sacred book of Dianetics, Surah 9:5.

Tony Blair, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, denounced the conference as “shocking beyond belief” Blair also said that is was “a symbol of sectarianism and hatred toward people of another religion. I mean, to go and invite the former head of the Ku Klux Klan to a conference in Tehran which disputes the millions of people who died in the Holocaust … what further evidence do you need that this regime is extreme?”

Extreme? Nah. More like business as usual in the Arab States.

Ahmadinejad said in 2006 that if the holocaust really happened “why don’t you give a piece of Europe, the United States, Canada or Alaska to Israel,” and, “why should the innocent nation of Palestine pay for this crime?”

Uh, maybe because the Jewish people didn’t originate in Europe, the United States, Canada, or Alaska, but instead originated in the very place they’re sitting today?

On November 29, 1947, the General Assembly of the United Nations voted with a 2/3 majority to partition an Arab area into a Jewish and an Arab state. Israel proclaimed itself a nation on May 14, 1948.

The Jews had already begun mass immigration into the Palestine area in the 1880’s in an effort to rid the land of swamps and malaria and prepare for the rebirth of Israel. This Jewish effort to revitalize the land attracted an equally large immigration of Arabs from neighboring areas who were drawn by employment opportunities and healthier living conditions. There was never any attempt to “rid” the area of what few Arabs there or those Arab masses that immigrated into this area along with the Jews.

The use of the term “Palestinian” for an Arab ethnic group is a modern political creation which has no basis in fact – and had never had any international or academic credibility before 1967.

“Palestine” has never been the name of a nation or state. It was a geographical term, used to designate the region at those times in history when there is no nation or state there. In the twelve and a half centuries between the Arab conquest in the seventh century and the beginnings of the Jewish return in the 1880’s, Palestine was barren.

The current claim that Arab-Muslim “Palestinians” are “emotionally tied” to “their own plot of land in Palestine”, based upon a “consistent presence” on “Arab” land for “thousands of years”, is nothing more than myth. So this place that is today so hotly contested was, for centuries, a wasteland with few inhabitants. This area would only become “remarkable” after Jews began settling there – such is the level of hatred that Arabs have for Jews.

Therefore what really is “the innocent nation of Palestine” that Ahmadinejad mentioned?

That’s correct: it’s a political ghost created as a nothing more than a rallying cry among those that want Israel destroyed – no matter whether those people using the word “Palestine” are Arabs, or academics, or journalists, or Americans.

Giles Babb, back in 2005, wrote a web page entitled “Army Brats in Germany: When Terrorism Was ‘Just a Nuisance’” talking about the massacre at the Munich Olympics (where Palestinians killed innocent Jews, sort of like what’s been going on ever since then). On that page he shows an editorial cartoon from the Denver Post during that time, and writes:

Also increasingly apparent is that you couldn’t necessarily depend on the UN to do anything about it, either. Below is the Oliphant cartoon that appeared in the December 1, 1972, issue of the Stars & Stripes, which could have just as easily appeared in the 2000′s. Here we have the UN showing its “softer” side in waging a “sensitive” war on terror. “Mr. Terrorism” looks real impressed with this approach, doesn’t he?

Just like Islamofascists killing innocent Jews, the role of the UN in combatting worldwide terrorism has changed little over the years. Why think the UN will change anytime in the future? Why trust the UN? Why support the UN? If the UN were a business in the US they would have filed for bankruptcy years ago.

The lynching of Israel continues, this time with United Nations boss Kofi Annan accusing it of the “apparently deliberate targetting” of a UN observation post, killing four observers.

What makes Annan’s allegation so unforgiveable is that his UN Interim Force in Lebanon has been warning for days about what almost certainly caused this tragedy. Hezbollah fighters, who have already been firing behind screens of women and children, have also been shooting from behind and next to the UN positions, presumably hoping Israel will not dare shoot back and risk exactly this kind of propaganda disaster.

Read the UNIFIL press releases for yourself to learn that Hezbollah has not just shot at and seriously wounded UNIFIL observers – without any protest from Kofi Annan or The Age. You’ll also learn that UNIFIL has repeatedly reported Israeli shelling and bombing near UNIFIL outposts because Hezbollah fighters were shooting from right beside them.

Can the jeering critics of Israel stop catcalling for a minute and explain how Israel is to defend itself against an enemy that shoots from among women and children, and from behind UN soldiers? Can they explain why they are such apologists for terrorists? Can Annan explain why he did not call on Hezbollah to stop risking the lives of his staff, or pull them out when they were being used to screen terrorist fighters?

Since 1978, the UN has had UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) set up. And since 1978, they have not lifted a single finger to stop rocket attacks towards Israel.

Since then, they have not lifted a finger to stop Hizbollah from building a full army under their noses.

Since then, they have not lifted a finger when Hizbollah built military posts right next to UNIFIL posts.

Since then, they have been sipping tea with Hizbollah, they witnessed the fatal kidnapping of Israeli soldiers in 2000 and refused to even help in the investigation, and they have failed miserably to live up to their mandate:

• Confirm the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon;
• Restore international peace and security;
• Assist the Government of Lebanon in ensuring the return of its effective authority in the area.

In other words, they have been firm supporters of the terrorist Hizbollah organization and firm enemies of Israel (as well as Lebanon.) But Lebanon found them useful as well, because as long as they were in Southern Lebanon the Lebanese army could pretend that Hizbollah was not their problem.

Combine this with the fact that the UN refuses to declare Hizbollah a terrorist organization (perhaps they are a origami club?) and you have a completely immoral organization lecturing Israel about morality.

Bottom Line:
- The UN is corrupt, anti-Semitic, and supportive of Hezbollah.
- Lebanon either cannot, will not, or is too scared to do anything about the Cancer growing inside its weak democracy.
- The Worldwide media will not investigate stories like Hezbollah hiding amongst UN observers, only bleating that Israel is targetting UN observers, thus showing their anti-Semitism.
- Israel’s only choice in this conflict, according to the UN and many world leaders, is to continually give up land to whoever demands it, and to absorb any attack against her without retaliation – to the point that Israel dies.

I am not a Jew. I am a Christian. I do not support their faith personally, but I do support them having whatever faith they desire for themselves. I do support their right to live on land that they have occupied for millennia. I do support whatever faith members of Lebanon desire for themselves. But I do not support the wholesale destruction of Israel, as so many of Hezbollah, Hamas, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and so much of the Middle East, are demanding. I do not support their goal of coverting the entire world to their faith via the sword. So many Muslims are talking about genocide (which is supposed to be a bad thing according to the UN). I do support Israel’s right to defend herself against outside aggressors, even to the point of taking the fight back to the aggressors. We are watching something much akin to the buildup of Nazism, another time in history when so many couldn’t, wouldn’t, or were too scared to confront evil. What the rest of us allow to happen to Israel need to understand that the same can and will happen to the rest of the non-Muslim world. If you allow Israel to be conquered you also must accept that you could be next on the list. I am ashamed of the worldwide media. I am ashamed of the UN. I am praying for Israel.

Those observers should have long ago reported the buildup for that invasion and gotten a military force into both areas to stop the terrorists from doing more violence. I wonder if this is the same UN post that watched as Hezbollah crossed into Israel and killed the 8 soldiers and kidnapped the other two. Just doing their job, observing, right? I wonder if any of these observers are those who cooperated with Hezbollah in 2000 in allowing them to use UNIFIL uniforms and vehicles to kidnap and murder an Israeli.

I’m sorry these four died. I’m sorry for the Lebanese who are dying. But they should have stopped the terrorists who had taken up residence among them. Why was the UN at that location after being shelled 14 times? Why didn’t they notify the IDF they were getting shelled? Why didn’t the UN “peacekeepers” evacuate the country with the rest of the foreigners? Are these observers simply part of the “human shields” that Hezbollah enjoys hiding behind?

UN observers stood and did nothing about the atrocities committed by Hezbollah in 2000. They stood and did nothing about the endless flow of munitions and illegal cash into Gaza. Want to bet they stood and did nothing while a Hezbollah fire base was set up right next door to their observer’s post?

There has been a UN presence ever since UN Security Council Resolution 1559:

By a vote of 9 in favour (Angola, Benin, Chile, France, Germany, Romania, Spain, United Kingdom, United States) to none against, with 6 abstentions (Algeria, Brazil, China, Pakistan, Philippines, Russian Federation), the Council adopted resolution 1559 (2004), reaffirming its call for the strict respect of Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, unity, and political independence under the sole and exclusive authority of the Government of Lebanon throughout the country.

In a related provision, the Council called for the disbanding and disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias. It also called upon all parties concerned to cooperate fully and urgently with the Council for the full implementation of all its resolutions concerning the restoration in Lebanon of territorial integrity, full sovereignty and political independence.

UNSCR 1559 has been ignored by Syria, Iran, the UN, and the rest of the world. Had this been followed the current crisis would not have happened. The UN, again, is shown to be a Paper Tiger. Outside of raping local women what has any UN security force actually done?

These observers did not confront the evils of Hezbollah. Because of their own tolerance of Hezbollah’s build up to war, Hezbollah built a fire base next door to their observation post.

Those who refuse to stop evil die when evil starts doing evil things. Even the stupid UN.

Also, don’t forget that Hezbullah has killed over 300 Americans. They should have been targetted by the US military long ago.

The United Nations Charter is the constitution of the United Nations. It was signed at the United Nations Conference on International Organization in San Francisco on June 26, 1945 by the 50 original member countries. It entered into force on October 24, 1945, after being ratified by the five founding members—the Republic of China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States—and a majority of the other signatories.

San Francisco, huh? How amazing that one of today’s centers of the One World Socialist movement would be the place where the UN Charter would be signed, bringing into existence a primary proponent of a One World Socialist movement.

As a Charter it is a constituent treaty, and all signatories are bound by its articles. Furthermore, it explicitly says that the Charter trumps all other treaty obligations. It was ratified by the United States on August 8, 1945.

Article 2 of the UN Charter states, “All Members shall settle their international disputes by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security, and justice, are not endangered.” Some think this makes President Bush an international criminal. Critics believe that requiring any country to obtain international support before undertaking offensive military action is necessary to prevent the escalation of conflicts. Yeah, we’re supposed to have everyone else’s permission first. Right. Oppressive dictators are to be left alone until, and after, you are forced into a purely defensive war.

But Article 1 of the UN Charter states, “To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace.” This seems to support the President’s liberation of Iraq. This is viewed to be an appropriate response to revised concepts of the new asymmetric warfare, in which a militarily inferior power or an insurgent movement claims the right to use normally prohibited tactics, such as attacks on civilian targets and use of unconventional weapons and actions prohibited by the laws of war, while assuming that the superior power will still be bound by them. We do not have to wait until after a dirty nuke or cloud of toxic gas goes off to respond to a threat.

But let’s get back to the Colossal Failure known as the United Nations.

Since the adoption of its charter in 1946, the UN has failed to “save succeeding generations from the scourge of war” over sixty times. Wars have been fought all over the globe, with at least one, and usually both, of the participants members of the UN. Those wars were neither prevented nor curtailed short of the combatants’ desires to do so. Dozens of nations have undergone violent overthrow of government; hideous pogroms have been carried out by machete or machine gun; millions have died; economies have been wrecked; “fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person” have been brutally and savagely violated hundreds of times in virtually every nation on earth.

From its beginning, the United Nations has shown that it is a timid paper tiger; an ineffective, farcical body which has neither the will nor the power to implement any of its vaunted goals. Truth, justice and fairness are not to be found in the UN building in New York. Instead, it quickly became a hollow sounding board for Communist propaganda, and has now proved itself an inept, irrelevant body of appeasers.

The UN sought to find people from small, powerless, non-aligned nations to become its Secretary General. It has never, not will it ever, appoint any representative from The United States, Britain, or the Soviet Union to be appointed as its Secretary General, even though is has always been these countries that have born the brunt of supporting the body.

One recent example is the current War in Iraq. It came into being because of the ineptitude of the UN. The opening words of Resolution 1441 are virtually embarrassing, for they document the failure of the UN to force Iraq into complying with a plethora of useless resolutions:

“The Security Council, Recalling all its previous relevant resolutions, in particular its resolutions
- 661 (1990) of 6 August 1990,
- 678 (1990) of 29 November 1990,
- 686 (1991) of 2 March 1991,
- 687 (1991) of 3 April 1991,
- 688 (1991) of 5 April 1991,
- 707 (1991) of 15 August 1991,
- 715 (1991) of 11 October 1991,
- 986 (1995) of 14 April 1995, and
- 1284 (1999) of 17 December 1999, and all the relevant statements of its President …”

Saddam knew then that a Resolution from the UN meant absolutely nothing. It didn’t then, it doesn’t today. It has never really meant anything.

Other recent non-actions by the UN:

1990, the Persian Gulf War broke out, along with rebellions and uprisings in Nepal, Albania, Nigeria, Romania, Niger, Somalia, Surinam and Trinidad. The Tutsi insurgency in Rwanda saw the brutal massacre of uncounted tens of thousands who were hacked to death by machetes.

The “August Coup” took place in 1991 in the Soviet Union, quickly followed by the Croatian secession. The Kurds again revolted in Iraq and Turkey in 1991, and the “no-fly zones were established to prevent Saddam Hussein from massacring Kurds in the north and Shia Muslims in the South. The Somalian Civil War broke out from 1991 to 1993, and the Soviets intervened in Latvia in 1991. There was a Thai military coup in 1991, and the Moldavian Civil War broke out.

The Algerian Civil War broke out, as did civil wars in Angola and Bosnia. The Bangkok Massacre occurred in Thailand in 1992. There were coups in Chad in February and May. The Tajikistan Civil War broke out, and there were two coups in Venezuela, in February and November of 1992.

The bloody Burundian Civil War began in 1993, as did the Civil War in Georgia. Somalian Clan Warfare began in 1993 and continues to the present. A revolt began in Chechnya; and massive genocidal killings began in Rwanda by 1994.

1995 saw the Ecuadoran-Peruvian border war; tribal violence in Ghana, and the Hutu infiltration of Burundi. There was a Burundian Military Coup in 1996, the Liberian Civil War in that same year, and a Columbian peasant uprising. The Albanian Rebellion commenced in 1997, resulting in the Kosovo crisis, and NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. Civil War broke out in Cambodia, and the military revolted in Sierra Leone.

A bloody Ethiopian-Eritrean Border War occurred in 1998, along with more violence in Northern Ireland. The Tutsi Rebellion occurred in the Congo.

Hideous terrorist bombings in Israel continue. The Mideast seethes with ancient hatreds and strife, and peace in the Mideast seems more elusive than ever.

Can someone point out anything meaningful or noble that the UN has actually accomplished?
