Osama Bin Laden tunes in to the radio to hear American news broadcasts of the event. “They were overjoyed when the first plane hit the building,” he said on a video later obtained by American forces, talking about others listening with him that day. “So I said to them: Be patient.” He said, “At the end of the newscast, they reported that a plane just hit the World Trade Center.” “Allah be praised,” replied one of the other men in the videotape.

Witnesses reported seeing people jumping from the towers just before they collapsed.

1800 EDT – Iraq announces the attacks are the fruit of “U.S. crimes against humanity” in an official announcement on state television.

2030 EDT – President Bush addresses the nation, saying “thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil” and asks for prayers for the families and friends of Tuesday’s victims. “These acts shattered steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve,” he says. The president says the U.S. government will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed the acts and those who harbor them.

Iran‘s president said on Sunday the Lebanese and the Palestinians had pressed a “countdown button” to bring an end to Israel. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who triggered outrage in the West two years ago when he said Israel should be “wiped off the map“, has often referred to the destruction of the Jewish state but says Iran is not a threat. “With God’s help, the countdown button for the destruction of the Zionist regime has been pushed by the hands of the children of Lebanon and Palestine,” Ahmadinejad said in a speech. “By God’s will, we will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future,” he said. He did not elaborate.

Dhimmitude is a chastened subservience to Islam by non-Muslims. This denial of basic rights and dignity remains part of the Sharia, and, as such, is part of the law that global jihadists are laboring to impose everywhere, ultimately on the entire human race.

Before 9/11 it was easy to ignore and whitewash dhimmitude, but the atrocities changed the situation forever. In jihads throughout history, untold millions have died. Tens of millions have been uprooted from their homes. Tens of millions have been stripped of their cultural identity. To continue to gloss over the destruction wrought by jihad ideology and its attendant evil of dhimmitude is today to play into the hands of jihadists, who have repeatedly vowed to dhimmify the West and destroy any recalcitrant elements. While jihadist groups, even with their global diffusion, are not strong enough to realize this goal by themselves, they have a potent and destructive ally, a genuine fifth column, in the dhimmi academics and dhimmi journalists they have recruited in the West. They have succeeded in confusing millions in the West into mistaking honesty and truthfulness for bigotry, and self-defense for oppression.

And as such, even with the repeated announcements by tyrants like Ahmadinejad calling for the destruction of the Jewish state, the world barely notices.

Zachariah Anani was a teenage militia fighter. Born into a family of Muslim clergy in Beirut, Lebanon, he began Islamic school at age three. His grandfather and great grandfather had been imams, and his family expected him to follow in their footsteps.

At 13, he joined one of the many military groups that existed in the early ’70s. “All the religious fragments had their own secret militia,” Anani says. “I was trained to fight and kill Jews, and to hate Christians and Americans.”

Soon after enlisting, he made his first “kill.” By the time he turned 16, “life meant nothing,” Anani says. “Every time I killed someone and two or three fighters witnessed it, they would give me a point on my chart. I carried 223 points.”

Anani met a Christian missionary, embarked on a spiritual journey and converted to Christainity which became a turning point in his life.

Anani initially tried to keep his new faith secret. Apart from one professor, no one at his university suspected he was a Christian. But in the Muslim neighborhood where he grew up, everyone knew it and he was harassed and persecuted. He moved to the city’s Christian sector, but the persecution continued. Even his father hired assassins to kill him.

Finally church leaders convinced him to leave Lebanon because his presence endangered others. In 1996 Anani entered Canada as a refugee. It took another three difficult years before his wife and three children could join him. After Anani debated with a Muslim scholar in the United States, his family was attacked in Lebanon. Two of his children required surgery.

Zak has been attacked numerous times for his faith as a Christian, even in Canada.

When in Lebanon, he was nearly beheaded and was only saved when an army patrol came by and the Islamist gang dispersed leaving Zak with a huge wound on his neck. Zak nearly bled to death and was actually technically dead for 7 minutes, before being revived.

In Canada, where he now lives, his house and car have been burnt, his family attacked physically and Zak himself has been attacked.

An absolutely amazing story of a man trained from youth to fight and kill Jews and to hate Christians and Americans. Yet due to a single Christian missionary he has turned his entire life around – and done so at a terrible cost.

He was almost beheaded. His children have required surgery because wounds form attackers. His property has been destroyed – and done so not in Lebanon but in Canada. And now he wants to tell his story to the public, a story how both the Quran and Islam seem to condone violence. But not everyone wants Anani to tell his story.

A member of the Windsor Police Services Board says the anti-Islamic lecture held at a Baptist church Thursday night was a hate crime, and he’s leading the charge to have the speaker arrested.

Wally Chafchak, also a member of the Windsor Islamic Association, said he and other Muslims and Christians have approached police about the lecture by Zachariah Anani.

“In my opinion, this went far beyond religious discussion and debate,” said Chafchak. “In the Criminal Code there is a section that deals with spreading hatred in the community, and I think that’s what this is. This instance should fall under those laws. Justice can only be served if this person is charged. He’s talking about hate, this person. We will pursue it further until we feel we have our share of justice.”

Now a Christian convert, Anani said Islamic doctrine teaches the “ambushing, seizing and slaying” of non-believers, especially Jews and Christians. He said Islam is a religion that worships a god “who strikes with terror.”

Anani said he isn’t worried about being charged, because he only drew on facts from the Qur’an, the Muslim holy book.

“What I said was fact,” he said Friday. “I wasn’t talking about my own interpretation. I picked facts derived from statements of the book.”

It has to be noted that converting from Islam to any other faith, according to the Quran, is punishable by death. Islam is the only known faith to have such a restriction.

Anani angered local Muslims when he used passages from the Qur’an during his first lecture Jan. 11 to support his view that Islam preaches violence.

“There will be an examination of whether he became a Canadian citizen with the full truest extent. His citizenship is going to be questioned at that time,” [Windsor West MP] Masse said.

As well, members of the Windsor Islamic Association have filed a formal complaint with the Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

CAIR has sent letters to Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant asking for a prompt investigation into Anani’s lectures under Canada’s hate crime legislation.

“His citizenship is going to be questioned…” Just imagine what will happen to Anani if his citizenship is revoked and he is returned by force to Lebanon. It appears that CAIR is not going to use its power to protect Anani but rather have him either convicted of hate crimes or deported.

There is a growing and forceful campaign by CAIR and other Islamist organizations in Canada to silence the free speech of Zachariah Anani and undermine his legitimacy as a Canadian citizen, by calling for his arrest and deportation.

CAIR, an organization which claims to be the voice of moderation, should be embracing Anani’s message against violence and the dangers of extremism instead of mounting a witch hunt against him.

It is no wonder that CAIR is attacking Anani, as it has been documented that many of the leaders of CAIR have openly supported the positions of Hamas, Hizballah and al-Queda — all recognized terrorist organizations.

[former terrorist from the West Bank] Walid Shoebat believes that CAIR and other Islamist organizations should join Anani in encouraging Muslims to speak out against terrorism and the killing, raping, forced conversion, mutilation and other acts of violence perpetrated by Jihadist groups worldwide against non-Muslims.

Why is it that CAIR absolutely refuses to acknowledge that killing, raping, forced conversion, mutilation, and other acts of violence are being perpetuated in the name of Allah? Do they not read the newspapers? Do they not watch TV? You would think CAIR would use their influence to effect positive change in the Muslim community, not punish those that would shine a light on those that use Islam for death and destruction.

Despite being founded by two self-identified supporters of Islamist terrorism and continually refusing to condemn Islamist terrorism, CAIR has not only survived, but thrived. In the five years since September 11, CAIR has grown exponentially in both resources and influence, becoming the de facto voice of American Muslims in the mainstream media.

CAIR claims to condemn “all forms of terrorism,” yet it almost exclusively focuses on Israel’s actions.

The CAIR board chairman is Omar Ahmad. In 1998 a California newspaper quoted Ahmad as declaring that the Quran should be America’s highest authority. That would put the Constitution where?

Addressing a youth session at a 1999 Islamic Association for Palestine convention in Chicago, CAIR’s other cofounder, Omar Ahmad, praised suicide bombers who “kill themselves for Islam”: “Fighting for freedom, fighting for Islam, that is not suicide. They kill themselves for Islam.”

Ibrahim Hooper is the chief mouthpiece for CAIR. You’ll see him on television from time to time. In 1993 the Minneapolis Star Tribune interviewed Hooper. During that interview Hooper is quoted as saying that he wants to see America become a Muslim country.

CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad, on the first bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, said “there is ample evidence indicating that both the Mossad and the Egyptian Intelligence played a role in the explosion.”

CAIR has never condemned any of Hamas’ many terrorist attacks. During the month-long war last summer, CAIR issued at least eight condemnations of Israel and America – but not one of Hezbollah. CAIR has, in fact, never condemned Hamas or Hezbollah. Given repeated opportunities to do so by outlets such as The Washington Post and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, CAIR has flatly refused to denounce either. Asked point-blank by Newsweek just last month to condemn Hamas, CAIR Executive Director and cofounder Nihad Awad demurred, dismissing the question as “the game of the pro-Israel lobby.”

And now they want Anani convicted of hate speech and deported to Lebanon … where his previous attempted beheading can be completed.

“I was ordered to fight all men until they say, ‘There is no god but Allah.’ ” With these farewell words, the prophet Muhammad summed up the international vision of the faith he brought to the world. As a universal religion, Islam envisages a global political order in which all humankind will live under Muslim rule as either believers or subject communities. In order to achieve this goal, it is incumbent on all free, male, adult Muslims to carry out an uncompromising “struggle in the path of Allah,” or jihad. As the 14th-century historian and philosopher Abdel Rahman ibn Khaldun wrote, “In the Muslim community, the jihad is a religious duty because of the universalism of the Islamic mission and the obligation [to convert] everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force.”

It was not coincidence that Osama bin Laden echoed these words in his glee after September 11: “I was ordered to fight the people until they say there is no god but Allah and his prophet is Muhammad.”

Bernard Lewis, a leading scholar of Islamist rage, places the fault line at the failure of the Muslim world to keep up with the West in the modern world. Diminishing Muslim power is both a humiliation and in Muslim minds a reversal of divine law, driving the losers to pick through the verses of the Koran to find justification for violence against winners. For many centuries Islam was the greatest civilization on Earth — the richest, the most powerful, the most creative in every significant field of human endeavor. Its armies, its teachers and its traders were advancing on every front in Asia, in Africa, in Europe, bringing, as they saw it, civilization and religion to the infidel barbarians who lived beyond the Muslim frontier. And then everything changed, and Muslims, instead of invading and dominating Christendom, were invaded and dominated by Christian powers. The resulting frustration and anger at what seemed to them a reversal of both natural and divine law have been growing for centuries, and have reached a climax in our own time.

Other scholars blame Western colonialism and imperialism, along with Judeo-Christian traditions, as contributing to the violent mentality of the extremists.

But there’s another, more correct, view. “The Middle East’s experience is the culmination of long-existing indigenous trends, passions, and patterns of behavior, first and foremost the region’s millenarian imperial tradition,” writes Efraim Karsh. “External influences, however potent, have played only a secondary role, constituting neither the primary force behind the Middle East’s political development nor the main cause of its notorious volatility.”

As a historical matter, the birth of Islam was inextricably linked with empire. Unlike Christianity and the Christian kingdoms that once existed under or alongside it, Islam has never distinguished between temporal and religious powers, which were combined in the person of Muhammad. Having fled from his hometown of Mecca to Medina in 622 c.e. to become a political and military leader rather than a private preacher, Muhammad spent the last ten years of his life fighting to unify Arabia under his rule. Indeed, he devised the concept of jihad shortly after his migration to Medina as a means of enticing his local followers to raid Meccan caravans. Had it not been for his sudden death, he probably would have expanded his reign well beyond the peninsula.

Islamic history has been anything but reactive. From Muhammad to the Ottomans, the story of Islam has been the story of the rise and fall of an often astonishing imperial aggressiveness and, no less important, of never quiescent imperial dreams. Even as these dreams have repeatedly frustrated any possibility for the peaceful social and political development of the Arab-Muslim world, they have given rise to no less repeated fantasies of revenge and restoration and to murderous efforts to transform fantasy into fact. If, today, America is reviled in the Muslim world, it is not because of its specific policies but because, as the preeminent world power, it blocks the final realization of this same age-old dream of regaining, in Zawahiri’s words, the “lost glory” of the caliphate. Islam is not a religion of peace and co-existance, and never has been. Islam has always been a cult of death bent on world domination.

Muhammad proselytized with violence and used violence to consolidate conquest. Occupying territory was as important as converting or killing unbelievers. When the Jews of Medina resisted Muhammad in the 7th century, he beheaded the men and sold their women and children into slavery – actions completely opposite of another Middle East prophet – Jesus. Muhammad, who claimed to derive his power and authority from Allah, was not only head of the captured states but was the single religious authority. “This allowed the prophet to cloak political ambitions with a religious aura,” writes Mr. Karsh, “and to channel Islam’s energies into its instrument of aggressive expansion.” The ultimate goal would be for the world either to embrace Islam or live under its domination – a goal still envisioned today.

And this vision is not confined to a tiny extremist fringe. This we saw in the overwhelming support for the 9/11 attacks throughout the Arab and Islamic worlds, in the admiring evocations of bin Laden’s murderous acts during the crisis over the Danish cartoons, and in such recent findings as the poll indicating significant reservoirs of sympathy among Muslims in Britain for the “feelings and motives” of the suicide bombers who attacked London last July. In the historical imagination of many Muslims and Arabs, bin Laden represents nothing short of the new incarnation of Saladin, defeater of the Crusaders and conqueror of Jerusalem. In this sense, the House of Islam’s war for world mastery is a traditional, indeed venerable, quest that is far from over.

What the people who blew up little schoolgirls and shot nuns in the back fear is not that the US is going to permanently occupy Iraq. They fear that we’re going to permanently change Iraq and the hearts and minds of its citizens – the Islamists’ cannon fodder.

Some analysts now see a new “axis of Islam” arising in the Middle East, uniting Hizballah, Hamas, Iran, Syria, the Muslim Brotherhood, elements of Iraq’s Shiites, and others in an anti-American, anti-Israel alliance backed by Russia.

As one of the Islamic fanatics who inspired al-Qa’eda said: “We are not trying to negotiate with you. We are trying to destroy you.” The Islamic terrorists who destroyed the World Trade Center, those who bombed Bali, and whoever it was in Spain who demonstrated a comparable appetite for indiscriminate killing, do not have specific political goals. They wish to destroy the whole basis of Western society – secular democracy, individual liberty, equality before the law, toleration, and pluralism – and replace it with a theocracy based on a perverted and dogmatic interpretation of the Koran. That is why the suggestion that we should try to negotiate with such terrorists is so fatuous: there is nothing whatever to negotiate about.

All the above brought only angry but empty words and, at most, a few misdirected missiles. The conclusion bin Laden and others drew was that the United States had become feeble and frightened and incapable of responding. The crimes of Sept. 11 were the result of this perception and were intended to be the opening salvo of a large-scale campaign to force Americans and their allies out of Arabia and the rest of the Muslim world, to overthrow the corrupt tyrants America supports, and to prepare the ground for the final world struggle. You choose whether you will roll over and play dead, or defend your freedom and liberty against tyrany.

The fuel of Islamic imperialism remains as volatile as ever, and is very far from having burned itself out. To deny its force is the height of ignorance and blindness, and to imagine that it can be appeased or deflected is to play into its hands (Europe, are you listening?). Only when it is defeated, and when the faith of Islam is no longer a tool of Islamic political ambition, will the inhabitants of Muslim lands, and the rest of the world, be able to look forward to a future less burdened by Saladins and their gory dreams.

Today I’m focusing on Islamists.

Anyone remember these from five years ago? It’s almost impossible to find them “live” online anymore after being purged by Islam’s apologists.

The US did not deserve 9/11. Says New York Governor George Pataki:

The date Sept. 11 will forever evoke in the hearts and minds of all Americans’ recollections of unimaginable tragedy, of lives callously and brutally cut short, of unspeakable horror and sorrow. And that is as it should be – we must never forget the depths of inhumanity to which terrorist fanatics are willing to sink in the name of their depraved cause, and we must never lose sight of why we were attacked.

It had nothing to do, as some would have us believe, with what America had done wrong. It had everything to do with what America does right; living by and insisting on the principles of freedom and democracy on which this great nation was founded, guaranteeing every citizen freedom of religion, freedom to assemble, freedom of speech, and freedom of the press.

To religious fanatics bent on killing those who worship differently, to fundamentalist zealots committed so fervently to hatred, oppression and tyranny, our freedom represents the ultimate threat. That is why we were attacked, and that is why each Sept. 11, we Americans should, even as we remember the devastation and heartbreak, take pause to appreciate and recommit ourselves to the freedom that is at the heart of our American nation.

This is also a great time to listen to the words of Dr. Rusty Shackleford:

9/11 was not a tragedy. A tragedy happens by mistake or because of natural forces. A tsunamai is a tragedy. A car accident is a tragedy.

9/11 was an attrocity. Attrocicities are committed. An attrocity is the result of planned action.

Islamic extremists murdered American citizens on a mass scale on 9/11. It was premeditated action.

Bush and Clinton did not murder almsot 3,000 people on September 11, 2001. Muslim terrorists did.

Whatever the pre-9/11 failings were, these were not the result of Clinton or Bush. They were the result of a mindset. That mindset was of treating terrorism as a law enforcement problem and not part of a war.

The terrorists declared war on us, and we, in return, wanted to serve the terrorists a subpoena.

France faced criticism in the European press for not offering more troops for southern Lebanon, which was seen as jeopardizing the UN force’s difficult task of imposing peace.

Despite expectations that France would provide the bulk of a planned 15,000 strong UN force, Paris said Thursday it would send 200 troops to reinforce the UN mission in Lebanon.

“For France to have retreated from a key role to the realm of ‘symbolic’ gestures ‘symbolises’ only one thing: a French loss of nerve,” [The Times of London] said Friday after having previously praised French efforts to find a solution to the crisis.

Resolution 1701 calls for Israeli troops to withdraw from southern Lebanon in tandem with the arrival of Lebanese troops to the Hezbollah heartland and a beefed-up UN force.

While France said it was prepared to command the enlarged force, it also called for safety guarantees for its soldiers before making further commitments. That’s right – “safety guarantees” for its military. Something like “France agrees to go into the area as long as everyone promises not to shoot at us.” One wonders if Eisenhower asked for safety guarantees before sending his troops into Normandy to save France from the Nazis.

I am sure the Islamofascists will be more than happy to give them all the guarantees they want. Afterall, they have always honored their peace agreements with infidels in the past.

Paris has come under criticism for sending just 200 soldiers to the expanded UN deployment mandated under UN Security Council Resolution 1701 agreed August 11 that set out the terms of ceasefire between Hezbollah and the Israeli military. Apparently France, the former colonial power in Lebanon, is unwilling to send military troops into an area that could see actual military action. France learned long ago that bullets hurt, and symbolic gestures are about as aggressive as they perfer to be. Retreat is another option Paris is ready to explore, even a retreat before any troops have actually landed.

The deployment is far below what was expected from France when it co-wrote the UN resolution with the United States calling for a combat-ready UN force of up to 15,000 troops to bring peace to southern Lebanon. Seems that French pens are stronger that French swords. Sure, says France, let’s send 15,000 troops into the area – just as long as none come from France. Perhaps we could ask Iraq to send 10,000 troops?

The Le Monde newspaper said Paris’ apparent U-turn was due to fears over “reprisals from Syria or Iran”, which both support Hezbollah. French military forces, it has been discovered, might have to perform genuine military actions, something not allowed by Paris officials.

France was once the most powerfull empire in the face of the earth. Napoloen’s armies marched across Europe and won countless battles. And now they have been reduced to “Oh, we don’t want to get hurt”. How the mighty have fallen.

France wants “safety guarantees,” only to provide 200 out of 15,000 troops, and they want to command the force. There’s arrogance, breathtaking arrogance, and then there’s the French.

Facing a new, militant tone from Damascus and Tehran — as well as a Beirut government that is too weak to confront the strengthened Hezbollah — France is hesitant about sending soldiers. France recently noticed on CNN that Hezbollah uses guns that go -bang- and bombs that go -boom- and great fear and trepidation have set in.

But in France’s defense it has to be noted that, in the past, UN-led forces proved to be a failure, in some cases a total disaster, with field commanders needing to consult the elephantine bureaucracy of the United Nations and are unable to take decisions without consulting the glass building. Military failure is nothing new to the UN. The primary mission of the UN is to bolster oppressive militants, not to bring them down.

If Paris does not stump up more soldiers, “its decision cannot but contribute to bring us a step back, with the rearming of Hezbollah, which will wait for an opportune moment to restart its hostilities,” a senior Israeli foreign ministry official said.

Jay Tea over at WILLisms posts this gem on the current conflict in the Middle East:

I have written at length about the [Geneva] Conventions, and how they are no longer relevant to the situation in the world today. I still stand by those criticisms, but they are of the Conventions’ current application and interpretation. I harken back to the basic precepts of the Conventions, and one principle in particular:

It is the obligation of the combatant to protect the innocent from harm. [emphasis mine]

This is being applied to Israel to denounce their strikes, but there is a further application. It is the duty of the combatant to protect the innocent by absenting themselves from civilians. To get away and stay away from those who are not actively involved in the fighting.

The Geneva Convention is explicit on this matter: civilians are never to be used as human shields. To willingly endanger civilians thusly is explicitly forbidden, and the responsibility for any casualties is solely upon those who seek such shelter — and not upon their enemy who fires the fatal shots.

He goes on to describe how if organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and the Palestine Authority were granted “state” status as far as the Conventions go then they could be held accountable to such Conventions and accountable to higher international standards. No one ever applies the Geneva Convention to Islamofascists. Why?

I disagree with granting such status because it will accomplish nothing within the international community. So what if Hamas and Hezbollah were convicted of the war crime of intentionally targetting innocent civilians? Would France suddenly grow a spine if al Qaeda detonated a dirty nuke in a US city? Would Russia be shown to be complacent in supplying arms to “soldiers” that hide behind UN observers and old women while firing unguided missiles into shopping centers?

NO.

They don’t “play by the rules” now, and signing an out-of-date document is going to make absolutely no difference to them. Nevertheless I do agree that tt is the obligation of the combatant to protect the innocent from harm – that is both legal and moral, and is a delineation of civilized versus barbaric.

The rest of the world (including large sections of the US) are just too “Jew-angry” to care. To them Israel can do nothing good, and even with the mountains of data showing these militant Islamists to be nothing more than godless thugs way too many people, people that would sit on international tribunals, would appease and excuse, making a mockery of supposed “holy” Conventions. A great idea, Jay Tea, but I have no hope it would actually work – and it makes me sad.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad [at the 10th Islamic Summit Conference in Malaysia] said Thursday the solution to the Middle East crisis was to destroy Israel, Iranian state media reported.

In a speech during an emergency meeting of Muslim leaders in Malaysia, Ahmadinejad also called for an immediate cease-fire to end the fighting between Israel and the Iranian-back group Hezbollah.

“Although the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime, at this stage an immediate cease-fire must be implemented,” Ahmadinejad said, according to state-run television in a report posted on its Web site.

France’s foreign minister, Philippe Douste-Blazy, condemned Ahmadinehjad’s commentsy, saying Iran is ruining its chances to play a positive and stabilizing role in the Middle East. But he also commented that, considering France’s vast experience in this area, France would gladly assist Israel in a complete surrender.

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Saltanov “emphasized the need for all interested parties to take efforts to find a solution that would allow to put an end to fighting and violence in the region and stage the ground for establishing a stable peace.” He also added that the current crop of Islamofascists, especially Iran’s Hezbollah, were some of Russia’s best weapons customers and Russia will do whatever it takes for all parties to continue their mutually beneficial relationship.

The Islamic world’s biggest bloc, the 56-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference, demanded that the United Nations implement an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon and investigate what it called flagrant human rights violations by Israel. The unprovoked launching of over 1,700 rockets into civilian areas in Israel by Hezbollah were considered to be a show of respect for international human rights, and called on the UN for medals of honor for Hezbollah members.

Saint Cindy Sheehan, exhausted and bruised from a recent lovefest romp with current boytoy Hugo Chávez, and continuing her protest fast against all things Bush, reminded everyone that she’s only intaking four protein shakes, two Big Macs, one (large) order of fries, and one apple pie per day. No one mentioned anything about why her butt keeps getting bigger during her fast, although Chávez appeared pleased with her “love pillow”.

Hizbollah guerrillas fired at least 182 rockets into Israel on Wednesday, the highest one-day total since the conflict began three weeks ago, Israeli police said.

The Lebanese guerrilla group has fired more than 1,700 rockets at Israel since the conflict began on July 12, killing 19 civilians and wounding hundreds. One civilian, a 52-year-old man, was killed in a barrage on Wednesday.

If a group of crazies in either Canada or Mexico had lobbed more than 1,700 rockets into the US we’d be over there turning over every rock and x-ray scanning every cave, along with firing quite a few well-placed bullets into someone’s forehead. But “it’s only Israel, it’s only the Jews,” right? “They deserve it,” right? “It’s Bush’s fault,” right?

If this were happening to France the UN would stepping all over itself with Resolutions and Condemnations and Rapid Deployment Forces.

If this were happening to Italy there would be all-night prayer vigils instead of pro-Hezbollah demonstrations in San Francisco.

I simply cannot imagine either 182 inbound rockets a day -or- more than 1,700 rockets in 21 days. That’s one every 8 minutes.
