In yet another nod to the protection of fledgling self-esteem, an Ottawa children’s soccer league has introduced a rule that says any team that wins a game by more than five points will lose by default.

Kevin Cappon said he first heard about the rule on May 20 — right after he had scored his team’s last allowable goal. His team then tossed the ball around for fear of losing the game.

He said if anything, the league’s new rule will coddle sore losers.

And once these gentle snowflakes reach adulthood maybe we should also guarantee everyone lives in the same size house, and drives the same model car, and earns the same income.

• People have no business owning guns. A woman raped and strangled is morally-superior to one that fought back and lived. Her orphaned children will grow up knowing their mother was a hero.
• Do statistics lie? You are more likely to die if you own a gun from a violent death. PERIOD.

As for “If you think you are going some place at a time when you think you need a gun, just don’t go” I wonder if that logic also applies to NIU, Virginia Tech, Columbine, patrons of Luby’s Diner in Texas, and the Trolley Square Mall in California? Maybe people just shouldn’t go to “places like that” since they just have to know that a random mass killing is about to happen at any moment.

And as for the “How many more 2 year old kids are going to become victims” screed, how many more 2 year olds must die before we ban privately owned, unregulated swimming pools, or how many more must die before we ban automobiles, or how many more must die before we ban Prescription Drugs? Did the commenter know that guns rank number 10 in deaths of children at around 2%, far behind drowning and car accidents?

And if more guns really does promote more violence, then shouldn’t we disarm the police so as to completely end crime?

And for the “I like the idea of having all gunowners should be sent to Iraq or Afghanistan” should we also force all drivers to compete in NASCAR before getting their driver’s license, or all future parents to be made to provide foster care for anonymous children before being allowed to bear children themselves?

And finally the “A woman raped and strangled is morally-superior to one that fought back and lived” is so absolutely asinine as not to warrant a response. I guess it should go without saying that this comment was posted by someone named “Will4Barack”, probably not a woman.

Getting a hepatitis shot is standard procedure for travelers to parts of Africa and Asia, but some congressional aides were instructed to get immunized before going to Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord and the racetrack in Talladega, Ala.

The House Homeland Security Committee planned a fact-finding trip about public health preparedness at mass gatherings and decided to conduct the research at two of the nation’s most heavily attended sporting events, NASCAR’s Bank of America 500 event this weekend and the UAW-Ford 500 last weekend.

Staff who organized the trips advised the NASCAR-bound aides to get a range of vaccines before attending — hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus, diphtheria and influenza.

Immunizations? Washington staffers should have been issued condoms, not immunizations. NASCAR certainly has less cooties than the average government employee in Washington, DC.

Travis Henry just got tackled by a $3,000-a-month child support judgment.

Sure, the Denver Broncos running back has a $25 million contract and a base monthly salary approaching $50,000, but that kind of bill can still crimp your style when you’re accustomed to expensive cars and fancy jewelry — and lots of other child support payments.

Henry, 28, has fathered nine children by nine women in at least four Southern states and has been ordered by various judges to provide child support for seven of them, according to court records involving one child living in DeKalb County [Georgia].

Records show that Henry’s children are scattered across both the American and National Football Conferences — including Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia.

So why do women continue to fall on their backs and open their legs for him?

Standing erect and answering questions with soft, short responses, NFL star Michael Vick pleaded guilty Monday to a federal dogfighting charge and awaited a Dec. 10 sentencing date that could send him to prison.

The plea by the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback was accepted by U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson, who asked: “Are you entering the plea of guilty to a conspiracy charge because you are in fact guilty?”

Vick replied, “Yes, sir.”

In his written plea filed in federal court Friday, Vick admitted helping kill six to eight pit bulls and supplying money for gambling on the fights.

The NFL suspended him indefinitely and without pay Friday after his plea agreement was filed. Merely associating with gamblers can trigger a lifetime ban under the league’s personal conduct policy.

Now maybe the courts can get around to sending this scumbag to prison where he belongs.

Says Vick:

Not for one second will I sit right here and point the finger and try to blame anyone else for my actions and what I have done. I’m totally responsible and those things just didn’t have to happen.

I take full responsibility for my actions.

Dogfighting is a terrible thing and I did reject it. I’m upset with myself and through this situation I found Jesus and I asked him for forgiveness and I’d just turned my life over to God.

Oh, so he just now finds Jesus. He just now turns his life over to God. Right.

Says NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell:

Your admitted conduct was not only illegal, but also cruel and reprehensible. Your team, the NFL, and NFL fans have all been hurt by your actions.

Your plea agreement and the plea agreements of your co-defendants also demonstrate your significant involvement in illegal gambling. Even if you personally did not place bets, as you contend, your actions in funding the betting and your association with illegal gambling both violate the terms of your NFL Player Contract and expose you to corrupting influences in derogation of one of the most fundamental responsibilities of an NFL player.

I have advised the Falcons that, with my decision today, they are no longer prohibited from acting and are now free to assert any claims or remedies available to them under the Collective Bargaining Agreement or your NFL Player Contract.

Goodbye Vick. I hope I never see you again in a Falcons uniform. I hope I never see you again in Atlanta.

Oh, and what about Jamie Foxx’s defense of Vick, as reported by Access Hollywood:

“It’s a cultural thing, I think,” Jamie said. “Most brothers didn’t know that, you know. I used to see dogs fighting in the neighborhood all the time. I didn’t know that was Fed time. So, Mike probably just didn’t read his handbook on what not to do as a black star.”

So the real victim here is Michael Vick, huh? Because he didn’t even know executing dogs was bad? That’s why he held the fights at night, in barns in the woods painted pitch black with no windows or outdoor lights. Give me a break. Jamie Foxx, you’re a loser too.

Excuse me? “His rightful place among sport’s immortals”? His rightful place would be face down in a gutter from a drug overdose, not sharing even a moment with the likes of Henry Aaron.

The stylish left-hander earned his 300th victory Sunday night with nervous family and friends looking on from near the Mets’ dugout on the first-base side.

Glavine (10-6) became the 23rd pitcher with 300 victories, the first since former teammate Greg Maddux reached the milestone in 2004 while with the Cubs. The 41-year-old Glavine, only the fifth lefty to win 300.

The difference between Barry Bonds and Tom Glavine is that Glavine recorded 300 pitching victories using only his own God-given talent, while Bonds received assistance from a synthetic designer steroid called Tetrahydrogestrinone (THG) and provided by the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative (BALCO). It is structurally close to trenbolone, a steroid used by U.S. cattle ranchers to bulk up their herds. It is classified as a controlled substance, like morphine and amphetamines.

Until Major League Baseball can come to terms with their blatant steroid use I have no desire to watch the game. College football is just around the corner, so the Boys Of October will have to find themselves a new fan.
