If attempts to cut education spending can send thuggish teachers’ unions into the streets and a tough Arizona law on illegal immigration can send unions and race baiters screaming, what will happen if Washington politicians ever find the spine to do what has to be done to cut Welfare, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other government handouts?

After decades of coddling and dependency, the US has created a class of citizens that believe entitlements are a birthright. Several generations have known only this way of life. Public “servants” are a different problem. They live in their own insulated world, divorced from the realities of markets. For too many years they have only seen their numbers expand and salaries increase. To believe that either group will accept what’s coming graciously is the height of naiveté.

Can anyone doubt what will happen when these events begin to unfold? Yes, “when,” not “if” is the proper term. The US long passed the tipping point for corrective action that does not involve all of the above. So have the welfare states of Europe.

On April 13, 2009, bloggers posted an unclassified DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis report titled, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” … a sweeping indictment of conservatives.

The report stated, “Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”

The report continues, “The high volume of purchases and stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by right-wing extremists in anticipation of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary concern to law enforcement.”

And YES, I am stockpiling both due to a belief that the Socialist Democratic Party will attempt some sort of gun restrictions, and the economic downturn has already caused a measurable increase in crime.

The document states it was “prepared by the Extremism and Radicalization Branch, Homeland Environment Threat Analysis Division” and “coordinated with the FBI.”

Therefore, if you disagree with Obama on amnesty for illegals or stand up for the Second Amendment, you are branded a “rightwing extremist” by the Department of Homeland Security and become the subject of scrutiny by some 850,000 local and state law enforcement personnel.

I’ll be at the Atlanta Tea Party this Wednesday along with many others opposed to the unconstitutional income redistribution process known as Federal Income Tax. What do you want to bet that the Federales are there taking pictures and asking for names of all us “subversives”?

Big-box, home-improvement stores in Los Angeles will have to set aside space for day laborers under an ordinance passed by the City Council on Wednesday.

When the ordinance takes effect — the mayor has to sign it, and most city laws take effect 30 days afterward — it will apply to stores such as The Home Depot that have 100,000 square feet or more, or any structure where 250,000 square feet or more of warehouse floor area is added.

The shelters must be easily accessible and include drinking water, bathrooms, tables, seating and trashcans. The stores may be required to work with Los Angeles police in developing a security plan, according to the unanimous vote by the 15-member lawmaking body.

People who live near Home Depot stores have complained of day laborers drinking beer, urinating in yards or other unseemly behavior.

“It provides for safe and dignified hiring locations where contingent workers can defend their basic rights,” said the group’s executive director, Pablo Alvarado.

Yo Pablo, exactly what would be the “basic rights” of someone that shouldn’t even be in this country? When the first action by these day laborers is to violate US laws and sovereignty, why should Home Depot’s first action be to provide porta-potties and free water? Instead why can’t Home Depot use the heads of these illegals to scrub out the porta-potties?

A US-based company, guilty of no crime, is now being forced against its will by the government to provide comfort to someone that is not a US citizen, that is not hanging around their parking lots illegally, that harm the US economy, and have childcare and healthcare that are subsidized by US taxpayers.

You want to solve this invasion of the US? Instead of allowing them to hang around Home Depot why don’t we ship these illegals to the local shooting range for the purpose of holding the targets? Them and the people that hire them too.

People hold fast to religion mostly due to their strong faith. Obama would know that if you had a genuine faith yourself.

Very few people in the United States have an anti-immigrant sentiment. But many have a strong anti-illegal-immigrant sentiment. It is these illegals that are sucking our infrastructure into bankruptcy without paying taxes. They are here illegally, they are trespassers, they are felons, they are criminals. Obama simply painted a picture of toothless inbred rednecks, and more than a few voters in small-town Pennsylvania saw his comments exactly as that. The question of whether to give driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants ignited a national debate in the United States. But in Mexico, the largest source of U.S. immigrants, there’s no question: Here, you must be a legal resident to get a driver’s license.

All of Mexico’s 31 states, along with Mexico City, require foreigners to present a valid visa if they want a driver’s license, according to a survey of states by The Arizona Republic.

“When it comes to foreigners, we’re a little more strict here,” said Alejandro Ruíz, director of education at the Mexican Automobile Association.

Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington allow drivers to get licenses without proving they are legal residents, according to the National Immigration Law Center.

“The fact that all 31 states in Mexico would have such a common-sense position . . . shows to me a certain hypocrisy on the part of the Mexican government, because they are constantly criticizing those of us in Congress who want immigration laws to be tougher up here,” said US Representative Peter King (R-NY).

With his poll numbers collapsing, Gov. Spitzer pulled the plug today on his controversial plan to allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.

“New York state can not handle [the immigration issue] on our own,” Spitzer said. “I am withdrawing my proposal.”

The embattled governor made the announcement after he met with the state’s heavily Democratic congressional delegation, which had grown increasingly critical of the plan.

Spitzer aides said the decision was made because the firestorm over the issue was blocking the governor’s overall agenda, and there were serious concerns that various lawsuits, as well as threatened legislative action, would block the plan anyway.

The decision to wave the white flag was cemented as a Siena Research Institute poll released yesterday showed Spitzer with his lowest approval ratings ever – with just 25 percent of voters saying they would support his re-election if the vote were held today.

One source said Spitzer had failed because he “just tried to push [the plan] down everyone’s throats.”

Gov. Spitzer’s spectacular political crash-and-burn, reflected in a stunning Siena College poll, seems to have had an immediate effect: The governor will deep-six his ludicrous driver’s-licenses-for-illegal-aliens proposal. Finally an elected official is forced to listen to the voters instead of mindlessly pursuing his own personal agenda. Eliot Spitzer’s standing with voters has fallen faster and further than any politician in recent New York history. Spitzer tried a wacky plan to give illegals driver’s licenses. But 70% of voters oppose it, and 52% say it has lowered their view of him. Oops.

The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to issue municipal identification cards to city residents – regardless of whether they are in the country legally – and to double the amount of public money available to candidates running for supervisor.

Supervisor Tom Ammiano, who authored the ID card legislation, said the program is a smart public safety measure because it would make residents living on the social margins of San Francisco more likely to seek the help of police and could give them more access to banking services.

The legislation would require companies holding city contracts to accept the municipal card as a legitimate form of identification – except in cases where other state and federal laws require other forms of proof of age, name and residence.

Under San Francisco’s sanctuary ordinance, it is city policy that no municipal government personnel or resources be used to assist federal immigration officials in the arrest and deportation of illegal immigrants.

Hillary Rodham Clinton stumbled badly at last night’s Democratic debate when she repeatedly refused to give a direct answer about whether she supports Gov. Spitzer‘s plan to give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens – and got slammed by her opponents for evasive double-talk.

“I was confused on Sen. Clinton’s answer,” said Sen. Barack Obama, who backs the plan. “I can’t tell whether she was for it or against it.”

“Unless I’m missing something, Senator Clinton said two different things in about two minutes,” said former Sen. John Edwards.

New York State, home to more than 500,000 illegal immigrants, will issue driver’s licenses without regard to immigration status under a policy change announced yesterday by Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

The change rolls back rules adopted four years ago under the Pataki administration that made it difficult, if not impossible, for tens of thousands of immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses because they could not prove legal status. Under the new rules, the Department of Motor Vehicles will accept a current foreign passport as proof of identity without also requiring a valid yearlong visa or other evidence of legal immigration.

The policy, which does not require legislative approval, will be phased in starting in December.

Hillary’s answer in the debate can be compared to her husband’s “depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is,” or the French-looking 2004 candidate John Kerry (who, by the way, served in Vietnam) and his “I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it”.

To watch Hillary twist and squirm, blame President Bush, and then opponents of amnesty for illegal aliens is priceless. It also produced good campaign ads for Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, or whoever wins the GOP nomination. But since the GOP is populated by limp-wristed, spineless morons I doubt they’ll have either the courage, determination, or intelligence to actually capitalize on this gaff.

Most of the American public opposes amnesty, no matter how it is phrased or what poll- and focus group-tested words are used to cloak it in order to sneak it by the public.

72% of the voters in her state don’t want this. 64% said they believe the plan would pose a risk to national security. But since the PuppetMasters™ of MoveOn.org are demanding this, and since they control the purse strings, Hillary is obliged to take this radical stance. What’s next, illegal alien commercial pilot’s licenses?

55% of Democrats across the country oppose extending benefits to illegal aliens, but the majority of Democrat candidates for President have been commanded to be fine with it. They’re not only out of step with the American people; they’re out of step with their own party, and in one of their stronghold states. The Democratic candidates are beholden only to a shrill, radical few deep in MoveOn’s bunker (protected from Black Helicopters piloted by the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy).

While it probably won’t completely derail her practically inevitable rise to the nomination, it does highlight every weakness of hers in a general election – the cold calculation, the shrillness, the radicalism, the condescension, the insecurity, the careful political parsing, and the inability to offer a straight answer, to name a few. In two minutes Hillary betrayed what she and her handlers have meticulously spent the last seven years trying to erase from people’s minds.

But what a difference an evening makes. After the debate, and after the Masters Of MoveOn™ were able to “clarify” Hillary’s opinions for her, she came out in support of Governor Spitzer.

“Senator Clinton supports governors like Governor Spitzer who believe they need such a measure to deal with the crisis caused by this administration’s failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform,’” her campaign said.

- then she flopped,
- and now, within 24 hours, she has done a complete backflip.

Most of us support immigration … legal immigration, that is. Make it easier for people to immigrate to the United States legally. But don’t set up all sorts of magnets, like free health care, free education, welfare benefits, drivers’ licenses and whatever to attract every freeloader to America that can walk, run, or swim.

The Democrats are under orders to make it easy for illegal trespassers to live in the US, to receive taxpayer-funded programs, and to vote. Most Americans are opposed to this. Voters understand, while the elite Democrats like Hillary and Harry Reid (and too many elite Republicans too) don’t get it. They all just see cheap labor and potential voters. They don’t see or choose not to see the costs in real dollars and national security and national integrity that having essentially no border creates.

The Republicans could have a gold mine in front of them in terms of a major campaign issue, but they will waste the opportunity. Hillary and her clones will get a free pass. Taxpayers will go back to worrying about who gets kicked off Dancing With The Stars. And the US will slip a bit closer to Socialism.

• English As Official Language. The plan would promote assimilation and legal immigrants’ success, and require English proficiency in order for any foreign person to be granted lawful permanent resident status.
• Freedom from Political Oppression. The U.S. would continue to welcome victims of ruthless regimes.
• Service to Country. Those lawfully serving in our armed forces would have an easier time becoming U.S. citizens.

Once again Fred takes the lead when it comes to presenting real solutions to real problems. This is a plan we can live with and a plan America can survive with. This is one of the key issues in this Presidential race and Fred is the only top tier candidate from either side that takes this stance. Compare Fred’s plan to the plans of any other Presidential candidate (assuming they actually have one).

Fred Thompson is not afraid to take on the issues. In fact, Fred Thompson is setting the agenda, and he’s not merely relying on pool data to form his opinions. The Boston Globe is reporting Giuliani and Romney’s camps are claiming they have been addressing illegal immigration for months. The column says they both side, pretty much, with McCain’s plan (give amnesty and a free lunch). These candidates have had no proposals, no outline, and no plan what so ever for the illegal alien problem.

Fred Thompson is the only true Conservative candidate in the Ronald Reagan mold.

State and local law enforcement have an important role to play in federal immigration investigations. Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provides the legal authority for state and local enforcement to investigate, detain, and arrest aliens on civil and crimi­nal grounds.

Any effective solution for reducing illegal border crossings and the unlawful population in the United States must address all three aspects of the problem: internal enforcement of immigration laws, international cooperation, and border security.

Sec­tion 287(g) of the INA allows the DHS and state and local governments to enter into assistance compacts. Both sides must agree on the scope and intent of the program before it is implemented, which gives states and local communities the flexi­bility to shape the programs to meet their needs. State and local law officers governed by a 287(g) agreement must receive adequate training and operate under the direction of federal authorities. In return, they receive full federal authority to enforce immigration law, thereby shifting liability to the federal government and providing the offic­ers with additional immunity when enforcing fed­eral laws.

Local communities that sincerely want to enforce immigration laws can do so legally and cost effectively through this training program. The program lasts five weeks and costs approximately $520 per officer. According to ICE, the cross-designation training, “allows these local and state officers: necessary resources and latitude to pursue investigations relating to violent crimes, human smuggling, gang/organized crime activity, sexual-related offenses, narcotics smuggling and money laundering; and increased resources and support in more remote geographical locations.”

Officers will be able to “interrogate any person believed to be an alien as to his right to be or remain in the United States,” and will have “the power and authority to arrest without warrant any alien entering or attempting to unlawfully enter the United States, or any alien in the United States, if the officer has reason to believe the alien to be arrested is in the United States in violation of law and is likely to escape before a warrant can be obtained.”

Democratic Governor Timothy Kaine of the Commonwealth of Virginia has stated that “I don’t believe immigration is one of the top issues in Virginia” and has refused to have the state participate in the Section 287(g) Program, even though many local municipalities in Virginia are doing so themselves. Why would he do that to the citizens of Virginia?

If illegal immigration is an illegal act, then why are some governments, acting as sanctuary cities, supporting it?
