Do you question authority? Fail to accept conventional wisdom? Lose your temper when you hear a politician make a promise that you know he or she can’t keep?

If so, you may be mentally ill, according to the most recent revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). In this revision, psychiatrists hope to add dozens of new mental disorders. Unfortunately, many of these so-called illnesses target people who merely think or behave differently from the majority population.

OK, so I’m mentally ill now, huh? So what? If you don’t like what I say then walk away and don’t listen to me.

Or is it more than that?

There’s a long and sordid history of governments using psychiatry for political repression. In the Soviet Union, thousands of political prisoners were detained in mental hospitals. There they were isolated from friends and family, and many cases, forcibly medicated. Nazi Germany went even further: it murdered over 180,000 psychiatric patients.

Laws in most states allow child protective services agencies to forcibly medicate your children. Indeed, if you fail to administer drugs ordered by a physician or have your children submit to vaccinations, you can be imprisoned.

So if the government can classify you or your family members as “mentally ill” then they can also forcibly medicate or imprison you … or just have you shot as a “danger to the people.”

Look, as long as I’m not bothering your life, liberty, or property, just leave me alone, regardless of what I say or write. I am protected by the First Amendment to the US Constitution …

… and that protection is further protected by the Second Amendment to the US Constitution.

The pediatrician and Harvard University professor President Obama appointed Wednesday to run Medicare and Medicaid will play a central role in implementing the nation’s new health care law, predecessors and outside experts said.

Donald Berwick, who Obama named to head the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, drew praise from top medical groups, including the American Medical Association, but Republicans criticized the administration’s decision to use a recess appointment to bypass the Senate confirmation process.

Though the agency is little known outside the medical industry it controls an annual budget of more than $800 billion and oversees two health programs — Medicare for seniors and Medicaid for the poor — with more than 90 million enrollees.

“Everything he does every day has an impact on every doctor, every hospital and every patient in the country,” said Thomas Scully, who ran the agency from 2001 to 2004.

So who is this Donald Berwick fellow?

He has also praised the UK’s National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), which he said had “developed very good and very disciplined, scientifically grounded, policy-connected models for the evaluation of medical treatments from which we ought to learn.”

Said Berwick, “You can say, ‘Well, we shouldn’t even look.’ But that would be irrational. The social budget is limited — we have a limited resource pool. It makes terribly good sense to at least know the price of an added benefit, and at some point we might say nationally, regionally, or locally that we wish we could afford it, but we can’t. We have to be realistic about the knowledge base.”

Oh great. Not “if” the government is going to ration health care, but “when”. After all, just look at how well the UK’s socialized medicine rations their health care.

In 2008 while speaking on the British health care system in the UK, Berwick said wealthy individuals must redistribute their wealth to those less fortunate for health care funding. Also during this speech, he told those in attendance that he opposes free markets.

“Any health care funding plan that is just equitable civilized and humane must, must redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poorer and the less fortunate. Excellent health care is by definition redistributional.”

Wonderful. A federal government czar that’s nothing more than a Socialist wanna-be. You can only have excellent health care if you take money out of someone’s wallet and give it to someone else?

Says Grace-Marie Turner at National Review:

President Obama is making a huge end-run around the American people with his recess appointment of Dr. Donald Berwick.

“This recess appointment is an insult to the American people,” said Sen. John Barrasso (R., Wyo.), a physician and leading Berwick opponent. “Dr. Berwick is a self professed supporter of rationing health care, and he won’t even have to explain his views to the American people in a hearing. Once again, President Obama has made a mockery of his pledge to be accountable and transparent.” Berwick will have authority over an agency with the largest single budget in the entire U.S. government and over implementation of the most sweeping legislative overhaul of our health sector ever — without so much as a congressional hearing!

But why did Comrade Obama make this a recess appointment in the first place? Congress is only on an 11-day recess. There is no emergency reason why he had to be appointed now, without waiting 11 days for Congress to come back. All presidents make these recess appointments, but there is usually a strong pressing need to do it at that particular time. Says ABC News:

The April nomination of Berwick — president and chief executive officer of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement — was in trouble and might not have been able to meet Senate confirmation due to comments Berwick made in the past about rationing health care. Even if Berwick could have been confirmed by the Senate, Democrats have little appetite for another round of fighting about changes to the health care system, Democrats said.

WTF?

Obama snuck this guy in under the cover of darkness because even his own Democrats weren’t happy with this neo-Socialist. Not only is Obama trying his best to “rebuild America” against the will of the Republicans, and against the will of the average Americans, but also against the will of many in his own political party.

Just damn, that really says a ton about Obama … the new Enemy Of The People. Folks, you have 116 days to shut his machine down for good.

If attempts to cut education spending can send thuggish teachers’ unions into the streets and a tough Arizona law on illegal immigration can send unions and race baiters screaming, what will happen if Washington politicians ever find the spine to do what has to be done to cut Welfare, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other government handouts?

Why is President Barack Obama in such a hurry to get his socialized medicine bill passed?

Because he and his cunning circle realize some basic truths:

The American people in their unimaginable kindness and trust voted for a pig in a poke in 2008. They wanted so much to believe Barack Obama was somehow better and different from other ultra-leftists that they simply took him on faith.

They ignored his anti-white writings in his books. They ignored his quiet acceptance of hysterical anti-American diatribes by his minister, Jeremiah Wright.

They ignored his refusal to explain years at a time of his life as a student. They ignored his ultra-left record as a “community organizer,” Illinois state legislator, and Senator.

The American people ignored his total zero of an academic record as a student and teacher, his complete lack of scholarship when he was being touted as a scholar.

Now, the American people are starting to wake up to the truth. Barack Obama is a super likeable super leftist, not a fan of this country, way, way too cozy with the terrorist leaders in the Middle East, way beyond naïveté, all the way into active destruction of our interests and our allies and our future.

Now, Americans are waking up to the truth that ObamaCare basically means that every time you are sick or injured, you will have a clerk from the Department of Motor Vehicles telling your doctor what he can and cannot do.

The American people already know that Mr. Obama’s plan to lower health costs while expanding coverage and bureaucracy is a myth, a promise of something that never was and never will be — a bureaucracy lowering costs in a free society. Either the costs go up or the free society goes away.
