The Primaries are finally settled, so it’s Roy Barnes versus Nathan Deal this November for Governor of Georgia.
I’m not a big fan of Deal, but I have absolutely no love for Barnes. So to keep Barnes out of office I have to vote for Deal.
Lesser of two evils. Hopefully Deal will show me something that will create more support from me.

You talk about “lesser of two evils” try living in California….Reagan was the last Gov. that had a clue. I have choice between Meg Witman and Jerry Brown… No brainer but not because ONE is great candidate and would do a good job, but because one is better than the other.

Robert, when did America quit building Statesmen? We are laying the future of this country at the feet of people we wouldn’t normally elect to pick up garbage. This simply means average folks, like you and I, are going to have to assume part-time jobs in following, and prodding, our elected representatives.

Shamalama, there is also a third option, or better yet a third party. The libertarian candidate, John Monds. Just a thought.

I like what I’ve read about John Monds … but I won’t vote for him just yet.
I’m not a believer in the Protest Vote in the General Election. In the Primaries, sure, but not in the General Election.
A lot of people didn’t want McCain in 2008 ( I didn’t either … I voted for Palin). A lot of people made a protest vote in 2008, and the only real result today is that Obama got elected that much easier. Had the voters settled for someone less that they really wanted then maybe Obama wouldn’t be in the White House today.
Like Neal Boortz says, you vote Libertarian in the local elections, but you still have to vote Republican in the state/national election. In a couple more elections I dearly hope we have a viable 3rd party, but today we just don’t have it.
Back in 1765 American colonists did not see eye-to-eye on all the issues (and possible resolutions) against the British. Ben Franklin created the famous “Join Or Die” broken snake cartoon to remind them that until they all joined together, in spite of their differences, America would never come to exist.
No two of us are ever going to agree fully on who should be Governor (I wanted Eric Johnson). We all have different issues that have different priorities. John Monds, no matter what you think of him, has no mathematical chance of winning, and even he will admit to that. Therefore instead of drawing votes away from Deal, and giving Barnes an easier trip to victory, we have to go from tactical to strategic, we have to Join Or Die. The Libertarians and Tea Partiers and the Independents and the Conservatives all have to join together under one banner, and this year we have no other banner but the Republicans (and it makes me ill to admit that). Maybe 2012 will be different.
This is far beyond our current silly two-party system. There is a real Big Government, Socialist, One World, Monarchy philosophy invading this country. It’s way bigger than some petty ethics violation that most Congressmen are probably guilty of in one way or another. Barnes stands for higher taxes on my grandchildren. Barnes stands for losing some of my recently-won 2A rights. Barnes stands for giving government employees more money/benefits/security than private employees. Barnes stands for everything that is crashing down around us today.
So for this reason I will hold my nose and vote for Deal. And the day after he wins I will continue to make it easier for 3rd party candidates to really get elected. And I will financially and physically support Libertarians and Tea Partiers and the Independents and the Conservatives … just like I was doing the day before Deal won the Primary.
