Via KHOU-TV:
A third-grader at Brazos Elementary was given a week’s detention for possessing a Jolly Rancher.
School officials in Brazos County are defending the seemingly harsh sentence. The school’s principal and superintendent said they were simply complying with a state law that limits junk food in schools.
Just damn.
This action by the school has absolutely nothing to do with their rules, or the state’s rules, or the apparent banning of “minimal nutrition” foods at school, or some notion of healthy eating.
The real reason the school game the little girl detention is that if it doesn’t adhere to the state’s guidelines, it could put federal funding in jeopardy. Yep, taxpayer money.
