Some folks are re-evaluating their personal firearm collection just in case Obama And Friends do more harm to this Republic. More than just keeping personal crime at bay, or keeping a home intruder out of your house, if SHTF then we’re also talking about survival.
Someone sent me this list:
- 1 bolt action scoped rifle in a large caliber: long range hunting (food) or survival
- 1 pump action 12 gauge with 3 1/2 inch chamber: excellent home safety device, and slugs will take large game food
- 1 22 rimfire that will fire all 22 ammo shorts, long, and long rifle: great for small game food gathering
- 1 battle rifle: yep, the Evil Assault Rifle, great from keeping away those that would do you harm, my favorite being the AK platform
- 1 handgun action/caliber your choice: you need portable firepower, and something 9mm or larger should work just fine
- 1 small gauge shotgun: a 20 gauge or a .410 is great for repelling varmints or gathering food
I cannot argue with this list, and is (in fact) what I am working towards.
Another person advised these Primaries:
- Rifle – .223; .308
- Handgun – 9mm; 45ACP
- Shotgun/Survival – 12 gauge;.22L
… and these Secondaries
- Rifle – .30-06; 7.62x39mm
- Handgun – .40S&W; .357 Magnum (also shoots .38 Special)
- Shotgun/Survival – 20 gauge;.17 HMR
A much simpler (and more affordable) list. Just remember to LEARN whatever you get, and TRAIN so that it becomes more than a paperweight. Also have the WILL to use it if needed.
Anyone with other opinions?

Not so much an opinion as what I have collected over the years.
in order of descending caliber
rifles
30.06
1) Scoped Remington 710 Hunting,
2) M1917A Eddstone w/ iron sites
308
1) M1A Iron sights
7.62×39
1) MAK90, tarted up and using a dot scope
2) SKS Ranch rifle (takes AK mags)
357/38SP
1) Rossie 92 carbine
.22LR
1) two (2) Rugger 10/22s
2) a very old (but rugged) bolt action
3) a break down AR7 style rifle (lives in my BOB)
Shotgun
12 Gage
1) Maverick 88
2) SAAS style double barreled carriage gun
Pistols
.45ACP
1) H&K USP Full size (ok, I like big guns)
2) Springfield Armory Micro-compact 1911
357/38SP
1) two colt style single action revolvers
.22LR
1) P22
2) Beretta Neo
I expect/Hope to get more use out of the 22lr than anything else in a TSHFT situation, but I could make use of all of them, and I have enough to arm up the wife and kids (kids are trained) and a couple of friends.

I see no need for a 20 ga shotty (presuming you already have the requisite 12 ga). A .410 perhaps for small fowl or rock salt use against roaming dogs, but a 20 just doesn’t make sense to me.
