NBC’s Tom Brokaw sat down with President Obama in early June, 2009, for an exclusive interview the one day after Obama delivered a speech bowing to the Muslim world. The next day, on the Today show, Brokaw asked Obama about his visit to Buchenwald: “What can the Israelis learn from your visit to Buchenwald? And what should they be thinking about their treatment of Palestinians?” This passes for “journalism” because there is, in Brokaw’s mind, a moral equivalence between the treatment of Jews at Buchenwald and their treatment of Palestinians.

Brokaw was recently the NBC News Special Correspondent providing election analysis, a recent anchor of the NBC Nightly News, and short-term host of Meet the Press.

(For you local folk, in 1965 Brokaw became an editor of the late-evening news on WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia.)

And now, in an apparent pattern of rewarding mindless media types that so valiantly supported him during the election, Obama has “elevated” Brokaw to the level of “Important Federal Employee”:

Today, President Obama appointed 28 members to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships.

The White House Fellowship is America’s most prestigious program for leadership and public service, providing young individuals with experience working at the highest levels of the federal government. Fellows also participate in an education program consisting of roundtable discussions with renowned leaders from the private and public sectors and complete service activities throughout the year.

The White House Fellows program is so important as it allows for a variety of perspectives to come together to offer expertise and experience on important policy issues.

[from the list of members] Tom Brokaw is a Special Correspondent for NBC News. During 2008, he served as the Interim Moderator on Meet the Press. From 1982 to 2004, he served as the White House correspondent, the Chief Correspondent for Today, and the NBC Nightly News anchor.
