Only Some Victims Are Really Victims And Some Aren’t

An abortion doctor was gunned down at his church. The media went into overdrive telling us the terrible story about how some “right wing militia extremist” gunned down a doctor simply because he performed late-term abortions. Oh, the absolute horror. Almost immediately Our Holy President offered this statement:

I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.

Shock and outrage. Murder. Heinous acts of violence.

But at about the same time two young Army recruiter-helpers, probably doing this between assignments, were gunned down by a recent convert to Islam, The Religion Of Peace™.

The media got around to talking about it briefly the following day. Our Holy President offered, three days later, the following:

I am deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence against two brave young soldiers who were doing their part to strengthen our armed forces and keep our country safe. I would like to wish Quinton Ezeagwula a speedy recovery, and to offer my condolences and prayers to William Long’s family as they mourn the loss of their son.

Saddened, not shocked and outraged. A senseless, not heinous, act of violence.

There is a great difference between an abortion doctor and our soldiers, and both the media and Our Holy President made that point clear. I think there’s a difference as well, although my opinions are the reverse of the media and Our Holy President.
