Says the American Journalism Review:
More than 70 percent of the political journalists surveyed by communications firm Brodeur in May said they spent at least an hour per day reading blogs and other online media. AJR asked seven political writers and reporters to name their must-reads.
As part of a Brodeur study of reporters and social media, 69 political reporters listed their favorite blogs. Their top five:
- The Huffington Post
- Real Clear Politics
- Talking Points Memo
- Daily Kos
- Townhall.com
So what does this mean?
“The Huffington Post” - a liberal news website and aggregated weblog founded by Arianna Huffington and Kenneth Lerer. It is an attempt at providing a liberal counterpoint to sites such as the The Drudge Report.
“Real Clear Politics” - a Chicago-based political news aggregator, polling data aggregator, and blog founded in 2000 by former options trader John McIntyre and former advertising agency account executive Tom Bevan. The site also compiles averages of major political polls on various elections throughout the United States to give a broader view of the race. They really try to be independent, neither Liberal or Conservative.
“Talking Points Memo” - a liberal web-based political journalism organization created and run by Josh Marshall. They are highly critical of Republicans in general, and President Bush in particular.
“Daily Kos” - a political blog, publishing news and opinion from a liberal point of view. It functions as a discussion forum and group blog for a variety of “netroots activists”, whose efforts are primarily directed toward influencing and strengthening the Democratic Party. In 2003, Kos creator Markos Moulitsas was retained by the Howard Dean campaign as a technical advisor.
“Townhall.com” - a web-based publication primarily dedicated to conservative United States politics. It was previously operated by the Heritage Foundation, but is now owned and operated by Salem Communications, and was re-designed to create a clearinghouse for conservative New Media and activism.
Does anyone notice any pattern?
Huffington Post, Real Clear Politics, Talking Points Memo, Daily Kos, Townhall.com, weblog, liberal
