Majority / Minority?

From MSNBC:

White people will no longer make up a majority of Americans by 2042, according to new government projections. That’s eight years sooner than previous estimates, made in 2004.

The nation has been growing more diverse for decades, but the process has sped up through immigration and higher birth rates among minority residents, especially Hispanics.

It is also growing older.

“The white population is older and very much centered around the aging baby boomers who are well past their high fertility years,” said William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank. “The future of America is epitomized by the young people today. They are basically the melting pot we are going to see in the future.”

From the Rockdale Citizen, my hometown newspaper:

Data released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday reported that Rockdale County became a “minority-majority” community last year.

Rockdale County was one of six counties in the U.S. to change over from a majority white county to a minority-majority county from 2006 to 2007. Other counties that made the transition were in Texas and Alaska, said Robert Bernstein, a spokesman for the U.S. Census Bureau.

The 2007 estimated population for counties released by the Census showed that Rockdale had 51 percent minorities in 2007 compared to 27 percent in 2000.

Black or African-American was the largest minority group, making up 38 percent of the total population. Hispanics made up 9 percent, while the remainder identified themselves as belonging to another race or two or more races, according to Census figures.

The Census defined as a minority any group not describing themselves as solely white. The group includes black or African-American, Asian, American Indian, Alaska native, Pacific islander or those who stated they are of more than one race.

Says Linz:

White Americans will no longer be the minority–by as soon as 2042. And, quite frankly, I’m looking forward to it. I’m so damned sick of all these foul cries of discrimination. He said she said, and you’re guilty until proven innocent. And the fuck-off who accused you, and slandered your good name, gets a big, fat settlement. I’m tired of being discriminated against because I’m white. Yes, reverse discrimination is alive and well. And I’m just sick to death of this bullshit. I’m sick of there being a Black History Month but no White History Month. I’m tired of seeing signs in Spanish instead of English–not even in addition to English, just purely in Spanish. I’m tired of there being an NAACP but no association for the advancement of non-colored people. I’m tired of being unable to say what I want and do what I want without being prosecuted by some money-hungry, lazy ass whore who won’t fucking work to support her five children by different daddies. I am irate at the disclaimer that comes with the 1st Amendment: You have the right to free speech, as long as no one is offended by it. Last I saw, there was no disclaimer in the Bill of Rights. So, yeah, I’m looking forward to being a minority because some shit is going to change around here, or I’m fucking leaving.

Geez, Linz, don’t hold back. Tell us how you really feel about this. :-)

And PLEASE don’t call me “Caucasian” (a typological method that was discredited and the concept discouraged in scientific work related to humans), because I’ve never been to or from the geopolitical, mountain-barrier region located between the two continents of Europe and Asia referred to as Caucasia. And don’t call me “white”, because I’m much closer to “Seashell” or “Cosmic Latte”. The official diversity-inspired and politically-acceptable designation for me would be “Scot-Irish American Southern”, or “Ulster Scot American Southern”, as well as “descendant of Adam” – and until I see one of those designations I think I will simply report myself as “other”.

Yeah, well, sometimes you just gotta give it your all. I wouldn’t be nearly as irate, except I am being investigated by the EEOC by a girl who claims I discriminated against her. This same girl told me, more than once, “I wish they [the company] would fire me so I could get unemployment”. Um, case in point anyone? If I didn’t feel that way before all this started, I sure as hell do now.
