Cloverfield is a 2008 monster/horror film produced by J. J. Abrams, directed by Matt Reeves, and written by Drew Goddard. First publicized in advance screenings of Transformers, the project was released on January 17 in New Zealand and Australia, and on January 18 in North America.
As a time code rolls at the bottom, text on the screen declares that the viewers are looking at “Property of the United States” pertaining to U.S. Case Designate “Cloverfield” found in an area “formerly known as Central Park”.
An explosion follows, and the head of the Statue of Liberty crashes to the street in front of the apartment building. More explosions occur and a gargantuan creature becomes visible in the distance. People attempt to leave Manhattan via the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge then begins to collapse after a creature in the water attacks it.
The multi-limbed, 25-story tall creature has a high resistance to projectile weaponry. Shells from M-1 Abrams, AT4 rockets, missiles from F/A-18s, MLRS and Mk 82 bombs from a B-2 Bomber failed to do any long term damage to it. It apparently can withstand the United States military’s “Mother of All Bombs”.
The creature also has parasites attached to it. Horrifying, dog-sized creatures that just scatter around the city and add to the nightmare. The parasites have a voracious, rabid, bounding nature, but they also have a crab-like crawl. They have the viciousness of a dog, but with the ability to climb walls and stick to objects. Bites from the parasites appear to cause fainting, bleeding from the eyes and other symptoms, including rupturing of blood vessels.
Can nothing save us from this hideous creature?
