Take Every Precaution To Prevent Becoming A Victim

December 23rd, 2007 · No Comments

From Georgia Carry:

A female student was the victim of an armed robbery Saturday on the campus of Georgia Tech. Below is the email from the Dean of Students.

Campus Community,

I wanted to inform you of recent criminal activity on the Georgia Tech campus. On Saturday at approximately 4:30 p.m. a female student was the victim of an armed robbery. The victim was walking to her car on Cherry Street between the Guggenheim Building and the Engineering Science Building. The perpetrators were in a blue, 4-door Honda Accord that was reported stolen near the Love Building earlier in the day. The vehicle, which has since been recovered, is also reported to have been involved in another incident in the Atlanta area. No arrests have been made.

Today’s incident is another reminder that everyone should remain vigilant, be aware of their surroundings and take every precaution to prevent becoming a victim. For more information about crime prevention, visit the GTPD Web site.

John Stein
Dean of Students

Take every precaution to prevent becoming a victim? That would be a felony in this state, Dean Stein. Maybe Georgia should follow the lead of Utah and de-criminalize adult students bearing arms for self defense. This gun ban stops the law abiding, but gun bans obviously do not stop those who prey on the law abiding.

According to Georgia Tech’s Student Code of Conduct the term “Weapon” means any object or substance designed, intended, or used to inflict or threaten bodily injury. Unauthorized possession of such “weapons” are prohibited. Does that include aluminum softball bats too?

But gun control stops crime, right? Well, consider Washington D.C., which banned handguns in 1977 and in 13 years saw its murder rate triple. Same for Chicago and their draconian gun laws.

So maybe Georgia Tech is scared of accidental gun deaths? Since 1930 the number of gun accidents has dropped 74% despite the population doubling and gun owners quintupling.

Maybe Georgia Tech is taking the proactive stance that gun in the hands of college students are a bad idea, what with all those hormones and stress and alcohol. Alcohol and cars do not mix either, so using that logic Georgia Tech should ban students from having cars too, right? And most certainly Tech shouldn’t allow males and females, while consuming alcohol, to be in the same room at the same time, right?

Methinks that logic and reason go completely out the window where guns are concerned … they are simply banned outright as being “evil” with no regard to their history of saving more lives than they take, especially in the hands of their law-abiding students. If Dean Stein really wants his students to “take every precaution to prevent becoming a victim” then he would allow them to possess concealed handguns - otherwise he is simply one more in a long line of hypocrites.
