A Santa Monica elementary school has banned the game of tag, once synonymous with youth and innocence, because they say it creates self-esteem issues among weaker and slower children.
“Little kids were coming in and saying ‘I don’t like it.’ [The] children weren’t feeling good about it,” Franklin Elementary School Principal Pat Samarge said.

Tag is now out during recess at Willett Elementary School in Attleboro.
So is touch football and any other unsupervised “chasing” games that are deemed to pose the risk of injury as well as liability to the school.

An elementary school has banned tag on its playground after some children complained they were harassed or chased against their will.
“It causes a lot of conflict on the playground,” said Cindy Fesgen, assistant principal of the Discovery Canyon Campus school [Colorado Springs, Colorado].
Playing tag will cause “conflict”, “injury”, and “self-esteem issues”. Maybe that’s why I’m so messed up today, because I played many a game of tag and dodgeball in my youth.
I also rode a bike without pads and a helmet, I ran around barefooted, I climbed trees without a safety net, and I shot BB guns and .22 rifles. I guess it’s but for the Grace of God that I’m not dead or permanently disabled.
Are we moving inevitably towards a neo-Socialist nanny state, or are the kids and parents just so much more weak than my generation?
