Two Defenseless People Killed

August 9th, 2007 · No Comments

From The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Two people died of gunshot wounds Monday that they received in separate shootings in Norcross.

In the first case, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the chest while painting stripes in the parking lot of a Shell gas station where he worked, police said. That shooting happened at 10:45 p.m. Sunday at 4840 Jimmy Carter Blvd. The man was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died about 2:30 a.m. Monday.

Police have not identified the young man. They said they have no suspects and are continuing to investigate.

In the second case, a man was shot and killed by an armed robber in a Norcross apartment about 1:15 a.m. Monday, police said.

The man was walking home with a friend when they noticed that a man was following them, the Gwinnett County Police Department said in a statement.

The man pulled a gun as they approached Steeple Chase Apartments at 5926 Singleton Road in Norcross. The robber took the friend’s purse, keys and cellphone and shot the man after he said he did not have any money, the statement said.

Police have not released the name of the man who was killed.

And a thug shot a man just because he did not have any money.

And yet the Socialists at the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence state, “The Brady Campaign believes there should be strict limits on public carrying of concealed handguns. If CCW [concealed carry weapon] permits are going to be issues, law enforcement should have broad discretion to issue or deny CCW permits based on what is best for public safety.”

Look, I like the cops (or at least most of them). They are underpaid, overworked, and disrespected. Yet what did the cops do to stop these two killings? Nothing. As a matter of fact the cops didn’t even respond until AFTER the crimes had been committed.

And this is the crux of these situations of violence. The cops, for the most part, cannot intervene until after a crime has been committed. In these two cases the cops could not assist the victims - they had to wait until a crime had happened, until two people were shot, until they come in with their lights flashing, stringing crime tape all over the place, and drawing those chalk outlines of the dead bodies. Now exactly HOW does that help the victims lying in a pool of their own blood? Is it enough to simply tell the loved ones, “now that the thugs have killed your loved ones we can do something about it”?

Groups like the Brady Campaign KNOW they will never get the guns out of the hands of criminals, so it absolutely perplexes me as to why they are so hell-bent in disarming innocent, law-abiding people that merely want to protect themselves from crime. Brady people, if you really believe you’ll get a great seat in Heaven by allowing someone to shoot you, then you have my blessing. But please step out of my way while I exercise my Constitutional right to self-preservation and self-defense. Without the inherent right of self-defense then establishing justice, insuring domestic tranquility, providing for the common defense, promoting the general welfare, and securing the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity are all empty promises.
