Six Flags Over Georgia Unsafe?

July 13th, 2007 · 1 Comment

From The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

A third suspect has been arrested in the beating last week of a Marietta teenager just outside Six Flags Over Georgia, authorities said Wednesday.

As many as 25 people were involved in the July 3 beating or know who was involved, said Maj. Paula Sparks, head of the Crimes Against Persons Unit.

Joshua Martin of Marietta was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition after a beating so severe that a shoe imprint was left on his forehead. A witness told Cobb police that the attack was “unprovoked.”

Joshua Martin, his brother, Gerard, and a teenage friend, Devin Antonio Carter, were confronted by the group, between 10 and 15 people, as they were walking toward a bus stop outside the amusement park about 9:30 p.m.

Every indication so far is that this is a random act of violence by a group of roaming thugs, possibly gang related. Six Flags Over Georgia has suffered in recent years by becoming less and less a family amusement venue to becoming nothing more than a teen hangout, especially after the sun goes down when the “wolf packs” come out to feed.

But don’t even think about trying to protect yourself while there. Firearms and ammunition, knives, and mace and pepper spray are all prohibited items. And that’s too bad, because I would loved to have seen the faces of the roaming thugs as a dozen law-abiding concealed weapon permit holders pulled out their handguns and aimed them at their direction when they started mercilessly beating on Joshua Martin.

From the minute I heard this, my gut said it was gang related. Now, after the 5th arrest, the gang has been identified.

Six Flags is now officially of our family radar.
