When The Words “Democrat” And “Hypocrite” Are Interchangable

From KTRK-TV Houston:

Representative Borris Miles was working on his new house near the intersection of MacGregor and Scott last night when he heard a noise and confronted two would-be thieves.

“I did fear for my life,” said Miles.

That fear, according to Rep. Miles’ communications officer, forced the lawmaker to fire his gun at one intruder.

“When he verbally confronted the men, one took off running and the other turned and threw a knife at Mr. Miles, who fortunately ducked to avoid being hit,” said Donald Fields, Rep. Miles’ spokesperson.

Miles, who has been advised not to talk about the actual shooting, was at the house which is under construction fixing a leak when he heard the men. He shot one in the leg and the other one got away.

“The brazen nature of these thieves renders them extremely dangerous and they will stop at nothing to steak this valuable metal,” said Fields.

Miles, who is a former police officer and has a license to carry a concealed weapon, knew about the possibility that someone may target his home.

Borris Miles, Democrat, State Representative District 146 of Texas, was in fear of his life. He is permitted to carry a concealed weapon. He used that weapon to protect himself from attack at his home.

Normally I’d be praising his actions. But the rest of the story shows the utter hypocrisy of Borris Miles.

Miles voted against SB378 (removed the requirement to retreat before using force if the other person is entering your home, auto, or workplace, or Castle Doctrine) at the 80th Legislature. The legislation did pass and will go into effect September 1, but with no help from Miles.

The so-called Castle Doctrine law protects Texans who stand their ground and defend with deadly force, their lives or their property. This is what Miles voted against, in effect saying that Texans have a duty not to stand their ground and fight but to run away and not use deadly force – what is exactly what Miles did.

Borris Miles

How dare he try to reserve for himself rights he would deny law-abiding Texans. Perhaps he considers himself more privileged or more important that the rest of us. Why indeed did he stand his ground and defend his property? According to his vote, that is a right Texans should be denied. Another Liberal politician affording himself the right to use a law he voted against.

Miles has to prove that he actively tried to retreat before using deadly force, and is, of course, still open to a civil suit for damages by the person he shot. Wouldn’t it be funny if the criminal sues him?

I heard about this yesterday (I think), and all I could say was, “It figures.” Not only was he a cop, so he knows cops can’t be everywhere, but he was a politician! Laws are for the little people who cannot do anything about it…so they thought. Did you notice the illegal alien act went down the tubes? LOL. (I got your URL now!)
