From The Aspen Times:
By voting this bill down or substituting an “enforcement-only” bill as an amendment, you could prevent the destruction of our great nation. You can save our language, culture and American way of life for future generations.
Passage of the Kennedy-Bush amnesty could cause many elected officials to be voted out of office. But, sadly, it would be too late for America. Save America!
Here is a chance to do some good. Put patriotism ahead of petty politics. Vote against any and all bills that seek to combine enforcement and amnesty. Eighty percent of your constituents will respect you for your actions.
Pass an enforcement-only bill now, give it time to succeed, and you will find it much easier to pass an amnesty for any illegal aliens still residing in the U.S.
For those of us out here who really do have a moderate position on immigration, who really do seek a reasoned approach that in the long run allows for some form of “guest workers,” the immigration bill being considered by the Senate is more and more of an affront the more and more its details become clear. It is an affront because it appears to have been written in bad faith, by illegitimate procedures, with all sorts of smoke screens meant to snooker us into believing the bill is moderate and balanced.
In fact, the bill is a radical and dangerous attempt to open the floodgates. It must be stopped.
For weeks, Americans were told that there are only two options for dealing with the nation’s illegal immigration problem: stay with the status quo or accept a “grand bargain”–a tenuous behind-closed-doors deal, first made public by The Heritage Foundation, which contained nearly 800 pages of flawed policies. In the face of overwhelming criticism from all sides, this legislation was withdrawn from the Senate.
Now, an altogether new bill (S. 1639) has been introduced by Senators Ted Kennedy and Arlen Specter. It seems to incorporate the previous bad legislation, with some meaningless amendments.
Yes, what started out BAD has only gotten WORSE.
UPDATE: About FinAid.org: “FinAid was established in the fall of 1994 as a public service. This award-winning site has grown into the most comprehensive source of student financial aid information, advice and tools — on or off the web. Access to FinAid is free for all users and there is no charge to link to the site. FinAid has earned a stellar reputation in the educational community as the best web site of its kind. It’s comprehensive, it’s informative, it’s objective — and it’s the first stop on the web for students looking for ways to finance their education.”
So what’s so special about FinAid.org? Well, take a look at this page:
This page contains information about financial aid and scholarships for undocumented students and illegal aliens. (The terms “undocumented student”, “illegal alien”, and “illegal immigrant” are used interchangeably and intentionally in this page to enable this page to be found by students who are trying to find information about scholarships for undocumented students.)
Financial aid is generally not available for undocumented students and illegal aliens. The majority of all student aid, including Federal student aid, requires the recipient to be a US citizen or permanent resident (green card holder) or an eligible non-citizen. There are, however, a few states that allow undocumented students to qualify for in-state tuition rates. There are also several private scholarships available to undocumented students.
Gee thanks, Mark Kantrowitz, the publisher of this information helping illegal aliens access to taxpayer-funded education. Maybe I’ll send you an email to the site’s email address of feedback@finaid.org.
