THE GOOD
- Cutting taxes
- Partial-Birth Abortion Ban
- No federal funds for embryonic stem cell research
- Trying to get congress to allow drilling in ANWR
- Tens of millions freed from tyranny in the Middle East
- Killing terrorists left and right
- Let the assault rifle ban evaporate
THE BAD
- He didn’t win in 2004, John Kerry lost
- He didn’t finish the Iraq liberation with an unquestionable victory
- Failed to provide real border security
- Let Ted Kennedy write the education bill
- Created a new bloated government agency (Homeland Security) that has yet to prove its worth
- Created a new bloated government entitlement (prescription drug coverage) that will rapidly collapse under its own weight like Social Security
- Not enforcing the existing immigration laws
THE UGLY
“This reform is complex. There’s a lot of emotions around this issue. Convictions run deep. Those determined to find fault with this bill will always be able to look at a narrow slice of it and find something they don’t like. If you want to kill the bill, if you don’t want to do what’s right for America, you can pick one little aspect out of it, you can use it to frighten people.” - President George W. Bush, 2007
According to the President, Americans whose “convictions run deep” on this “complex” and “emotional” issue “don’t want to do what’s right for America.” And the amnesty aspect of the proposal isn’t anything major; heck, it’s only a “narrow slice” of the bill. And anyone who disagrees is just trying to “frighten” people.
And here we watch the last remnants of Conservatism whither and die from within the Republican Party.
