On January 22, 1973, 34 years ago today, the US Supreme Court decided “Roe v. Wade”. The central holding of Roe v. Wade was that abortions are permissible for any reason a woman chooses, up until the “point at which the fetus becomes ‘viable,’ that is, potentially able to live outside the mother’s womb, albeit with artificial aid.
According to Merriam-Webster the word “fetus” means “a developing human from usually two months after conception to birth”, as compared to “embryo” which means “the developing human individual from the time of implantation to the end of the eighth week after conception”.
According to those that allow abortions the word “fetus” means “a non-human lump of flesh having no worth or value, having no legal rights, having no soul, and can be sucked out, crushed, or dissolved with acid and flushed down a toilet if it hinders the mother’s freedoms, desire, or lifestyle in any way.”
Thanks to macranger at Stop The ACLU we are able to put this decision into perspective (table formatting mine):
The press is celebrating this day the “Thirty-fourth” anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, signifying a woman’s right to kill her baby.
It should be however a memorial.
For comparison since the left that celebrates the right to murder the unborn also enjoys counting our war dead as an excuse bash Bush, this comparison is appropriate:
Revolutionary War 4,435 deaths Civil War (both sides) 498,332 deaths World War I 116,708 deaths World War II 407,316 deaths Korea 25,604 deaths Vietnam 58,168 deaths Total killed due to abortion since 1973 50,000,000 deaths Estimate since the Iraq War began just over 5,000,000 deaths Yeah, let all the children cry - if they could.
