Sunday Spam

December 10th, 2006 · No Comments

ITEM 1: I received a handful of spam comments this week with all the links within the spam pointing to google.com. All the comment IP’s are in the 212.24.48.* range, which ARIN WHOIS says is RIPE Network Coordination Centre. This Regional Internet Registry for Europe further leads me to:

inetnum: 212.24.32.0 - 212.24.63.255
org: ORG-IA47-RIPE
netname: RU-CARAVAN-990216
descr: Provider Local Registry
country: RU
admin-c: CR6423-RIPE
tech-c: CR6423-RIPE
org-name: ISP “CARAVAN”
org-type: LIR
address: 2-y Obydenskiy per. 12a
address: 119034
address: MOSCOW
address: Russian Federation
phone: +7 495 3632252
fax-no: +7 495 3632252

In my little experience there is an absolute TON of spam coming out of their servers. This blog is now configured not to accept any comments coming from them.

Now why in the world would someone want to spam me with a bunch of links to Google? Not links to sites with viagra, levitra, or cialis … but Google?

ITEM 2: I’m still getting spam coming out of unmoderated school/college message boards. Places that are supposed to be talking about homework assignments, but haven’t been used frequently for a couple of years, seem to be a new “home” for spam link fun.

This week’s school spam came from:

University of Iowa, Andrew Greenlee’s discussion forum (now closed)
Tennessee Tech University, Professor Peter Li’s discussion forum (now closed)
Fullerton College, Lambda Society discussion forum (still open)
North Seattle Community College, NutritionNews discussion forum (still open)
Antelope Valley College, Faculty Academy discussion forum (still open?)
Central New Mexico Community College, CommTeam discussion forum (still open)
Vance-Granville Community College, “BUS 110: Introduction to Business” discussion forum (spam erased?)
Southeast Missouri State University, Child Care Resource & Referral discussion forum (spam erased?)

If I see any more spam coming from these inept places of education they will be added to my Automatically Nuke filter.
