From Gulf News via blonde sagacity:
Jose Maria Aznar, former Spanish prime minister, defended Pope Benedict XVI’s comments about Islam, saying on Friday the pontiff had no need to apologise and asking why Muslims never did.
Referring to the Moorish conquest of much of the Iberian Peninsula from the eighth to the 15th century, Aznar said: “It is interesting to note that while a lot of people in the world are asking the Pope to apologise for his speech, I have never heard a Muslim say sorry for having conquered Spain and occupying it for eight centuries.”
Addressing Friday’s conference in Washington on “global threats”, Aznar said: “We are living in a time of war … It’s them or us. The West did not attack Islam, it was they who attacked us.”
“We must face up to an Islam that is ambitious, that is radical and that influences the Muslim world, a fundamentalist Islam that we must confront because we don’t have any choice.
“We are constantly under attack and we must defend ourselves,” he said.
“I support Ferdinand and Isabella,” he proclaimed, in reference to the medieval Catholic monarchs who drove the Moors out of Spain in 1492.
Do you remember Aznar? He’s the guy that was suddenly booted out of office in Spain after Islamofascists blew up a commuter train in Madrid. The 2004 Madrid train bombings were a series of coordinated bombings against the commuter train system of Madrid, Spain on the morning of March 11, 2004, which killed 191 people and wounded over 1700. A total of thirteen improvised explosive devices were reported to have been placed on the trains.
The Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group was named as a focus of investigations. Currently a loose group of Muslims inspired by al-Qaeda is suspected of having carried out the attacks.
The bombings were three days before the general elections. That cowardly attack scared Spanish voters into voting into office an Islamist sympathizer. A bully frightened them and they caved in to pressure. Sure, Aznar did his best to divert attention away from al Qaeda and onto ETA (who was not involved). but he did so only because he understood that if the general population thought al Qaeda was behind the bombings the voters would take it out on him (who supported the US liberating Iraq). And he was right: al Qaeda became the primary suspect, and the voters – scared of Muslims with guns – voted Aznar into unemployment.
Some say that this made Spain the first country in the newly-formed Eurabia, beating out Frace for the top spot. Either way it’s a sad day when a country allows terrorists to effect the outcome of a national election. Aznar was right: “We must face up to an Islam that is ambitious, that is radical and that influences the Muslim world, a fundamentalist Islam that we must confront because we don’t have any choice. We are constantly under attack and we must defend ourselves.”

Muslims Urged to Vote
As I have mentioned before, American politics is tricky business for Muslims. This was best illustrated in a post that I wrote entitled, “Is The US Becoming Islamized?” when I said,
“It is funny because the real issues come to light for M…
