From the Richmond Times-Dispatch via WILLisms:
The Navy’s last flying F-14 Tomcat will make its final landing at the Virginia Aviation Museum.
An iconic symbol of U.S. naval aviation, the twin-tail fighter should touch down Sept. 28, the museum’s Mike Boehme said.
“We’re going to get the last one,” said Boehme, the museum’s executive director.
The Navy has retired the veteran jet from its aircraft inventory in favor of the newer F/A-18 Super Hornet.
Manufactured by the former Grumman Aircraft Corp., the large fighter made its first flight in 1970.
The type flew combat missions over many decades, from operations in Vietnam to Iraq.
