The Power Of The Clintonistas

path to 9/11

From ABC.com:

On September 11, 2001 the world stood still as terrorists used four planes as lethal weapons against innocent Americans. The 9/11 Commission was formed to determine how such an attack could happen, and its report documents the trail from the 1993 World Trade Center bombing to the tragedy of that autumn morning. The bipartisan commission effort created a comprehensive record of events and provides valuable insight into what must be done to protect the nation in the future.

ABC will present “The Path to 9/11,” a dramatization of the events detailed in The 9/11 Commission Report and other sources, in an epic miniseries event that will air with limited commercial interruption.

Not so fast ABC, says the Clinton Wing of the Democratic National Convention:

Urging him to cancel the grossly inaccurate upcoming miniseries The Path to 9/11, the Senate Democratic Leadership today sent the following letter to Disney President and CEO Robert Iger. Disney’s subsidiary ABC erroneously claims the misleading miniseries is based on 9/11 Commission report and is planning to air it on September 10 and 11. Shockingly, the network is also planning to use the program as a teaching tool through Scholastic, potentially misinforming thousands of children about the most important event in recent American history.

The text of the letter, signed by Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, Assistant Democratic Leader Dick Durbin, and Senators Debbie Stabenow, Charles Schumer, and Byron Dorgan, is below.

You see, if the series had gone forward uncensored a small percentage of people would have been enlightened to the fact that 9/11 was planned by bin Laden during the Clinton years, and that Clinton didn’t do enough to get him.

And then squawks the Clintonistas thenselves:

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former National Security Adviser Samuel “Sandy” Berger, Clinton Foundation head Bruce Lindsey and Clinton adviser Douglas Band wrote to Robert Iger, the CEO of ABC’s parent Walt Disney Co., to express concern over “The Path to 9/11.” The letter writers said the mini-series, to air Sunday and Monday, had factual errors.

A once sitting president and at least three former members of his former cabinet have personally contacted a member of the “mainstream media” and arm-twisted him into — at minimal — cutting some scenes, or maybe canceling a two-part TV movie because it doesn’t look favorably upon his Presidency. If this were Bush, Rove, and Condi calling ABC you would hear the howling out of D.C. as far away as Arizona.

The problem, you see, is that in this movie the Clinton Administration is portrayed as treating Islamic terrorism as nothing more than a law enforcement problem. There is one scene in the move where Intelligence officials are discussing an attempt to kill or capture Osama bin Laden. The Clinton administration is refusing to authorize the action. Permission denied. The Clinton aide says that the problem is that Clinton views terrorism as largely a law enforcement problem. The intelligence official asks “How do you win a law and orderly war?” The aide responds “You don’t.”

There is no way that any reasonable person can argue that the Clinton administration was dedicated to crushing Islamic terrorism. Clinton did indeed treat it like a law enforcement program. After the first Islamic terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in 1993 Clinton did not even bother to visit New York City to view the damage, talk to survivors and the families of those who lost their lives, or meet with NYC officials and first responders. And what of the attack on the U.S. Cole? This was an attack on a U.S. Navy warship. Clinton was the Commander in Chief. The response? At best, lob a few cruise missiles. That’s it. Nothing more.

Then comes this nugget from the LA Times:

The network has in recent days made changes to the film, set to air Sunday and Monday, after leading political figures, many of them Democrats, complained about bias and alleged inaccuracies. Meanwhile, a left-wing organization has launched a letter-writing campaign urging the network to “correct” or dump the miniseries.

Just another example that the Left isn’t opposed to censorship - they just want to be the censors.

Now on Friday we learn from Variety:

Bill Clinton loyalists are demanding wholesale changes to the upcoming miniseries — and while ABC is making some snips, the alterations, insiders say, may not please the Dems.

But a bombshell decision may happen anyway: Sources close to the project say the network, which has been in a media maelstrom over the pic, is mulling the idea of yanking the mini altogether.

So much for Freedom Of Speech, huh? You have to ask yourself why Bill Clinton and the current Senate Democrat leadership were so afraid of the movie. They want to sanitize the history behind the 9/11 attacks so that it starts and ends with Bush’s inauguration in 2001. Just shows to go you that the whining toddler gets the diapers.

The biggest irony of this issue is how the Democrats embraced the oft-debunked “Farenheit 9/11″ during their 2004 National Convention.

Maybe Disney could release it on DVD with the tagline “The Movie the Democrats Didn’t Want You to See.”
