The murder of a young Pakistani woman by her Muslim father has sparked a fierce debate in Italy about how to deal with the “clash of civilisations”.
Hina Saleem, 21, was reported missing last Saturday by her boyfriend, a 33-year-old Italian carpenter with whom she was living, after a visit to her family. Her relations with them had been strained for years.
She told the manager of the pizzeria where she worked as a waitress that she had been summoned home to meet a cousin who was passing through. Then her mobile phone went dead.
When the Carabinieri broke into the house in the region of Brescia in northern Italy, they found Hina’s bedroom spattered with blood. In the garden, buried under a metre of soil and with her jeans and blouse soaked in blood, was the body of the missing girl. Her throat had been slit.
Mohammed Saleem [ed: her father], arrested two days after Hina’s body was discovered, allegedly said, “Yes I did it, just me.”
Hina’s boyfriend has suggested that she had been promised in marriage to a cousin. At the beginning of July, she was said to have refused her father’s insistent demand that she return with her mother and sisters to the city of Gujarat in Pakistan, where she was born, to get married.
“The case of the Pakistani woman murdered by her father says a lot about the aims of citizenship,” he [ed: Giuliano Amato, Italy's Interior Minister] commented, “because it is clear that it is not enough to require adhesion to the values of the Italian Constitution. Adhesion to fundamental rights is also necessary, such as the fact that women are to be respected according to rules which I consider universal.”
A few points of note are in order:
- Fundamental rights, as defined by a particular government (like Italy here) are inconsequential to many Muslims. Islam trumps all other laws. Many Muslims do not assimilate into their host country; they demand that the host country assimilate to their beliefs.
- “Clash of civilizations” is a misnomer. The proper term is “murder of an innocent human”. The author of this article cannot bring themself to admit there was a capital crime here.
- The Muslim choice is simple: Live in the 21st century, or live in the sixth century.
- How can you use the word “civilization” when the root of that word is defined as “adequate in courtesy and politeness”? Surely carving up your daughter like a piece of meat cannot be seen as courteous or polite.
- Why is anyone surprised? This pervesion of Islam has publically stated their beliefs but we refuse to believe them. Anyone truely shocked by the base conduct of many Muslims must have been in a coma for the last decade or two because this is not the first recent Honor Killing nor will it be the last. While the rest of the world has matured and evolved many Muslims strongly remain in the Dark Ages.
- World opinion cannot continue to tolerate those whose only goal in life is to kill those who disagree with them.
- The empirical notion of right and wrong among many Muslims are in direct opposition to that of the rest of the world. Yet Islamic apologists will fall all over themselves excusing such actions as simply “cultural” and fight any criticisms as “racist”.
- Note how the father is covering for the others in his family who took part in the murderous conspiracy. Family values, huh?
- Sharia should not be “made legal” in countries where Muslims immigrate to. The sovreign law of the land must be upheld. Otherwise it’s not called “immigration” – it’s called “conquest”.
- This has nothing to do with honor or civility. It has to do with a people hiding behind a religion, using it for an excuse to kill their own and to kill all of us and so far we keep letting it happen.
- Wouldn’t a true “Honor Killing” be to declare open season on the Pakistani family by the carpenter and his family?
- If any, and I repeat ANY, other faith on the Earth behaved in this way the UN and dozens of international organizations would be demanding a stop to the killings. Just imagine what would come from the world media if the Pope suddenly began excusing Honor Killings when Catholic women marry outside of their faith.
