Hezbollah and Hamas should not have invaded Israel. This was the cause of the death of those UN observers, not any defensive action by Israel.
Those observers should have long ago reported the buildup for that invasion and gotten a military force into both areas to stop the terrorists from doing more violence. I wonder if this is the same UN post that watched as Hezbollah crossed into Israel and killed the 8 soldiers and kidnapped the other two. Just doing their job, observing, right? I wonder if any of these observers are those who cooperated with Hezbollah in 2000 in allowing them to use UNIFIL uniforms and vehicles to kidnap and murder an Israeli.
I’m sorry these four died. I’m sorry for the Lebanese who are dying. But they should have stopped the terrorists who had taken up residence among them. Why was the UN at that location after being shelled 14 times? Why didn’t they notify the IDF they were getting shelled? Why didn’t the UN “peacekeepers” evacuate the country with the rest of the foreigners? Are these observers simply part of the “human shields” that Hezbollah enjoys hiding behind?
UN observers stood and did nothing about the atrocities committed by Hezbollah in 2000. They stood and did nothing about the endless flow of munitions and illegal cash into Gaza. Want to bet they stood and did nothing while a Hezbollah fire base was set up right next door to their observer’s post?
There has been a UN presence ever since UN Security Council Resolution 1559:
By a vote of 9 in favour (Angola, Benin, Chile, France, Germany, Romania, Spain, United Kingdom, United States) to none against, with 6 abstentions (Algeria, Brazil, China, Pakistan, Philippines, Russian Federation), the Council adopted resolution 1559 (2004), reaffirming its call for the strict respect of Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, unity, and political independence under the sole and exclusive authority of the Government of Lebanon throughout the country.
In a related provision, the Council called for the disbanding and disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias. It also called upon all parties concerned to cooperate fully and urgently with the Council for the full implementation of all its resolutions concerning the restoration in Lebanon of territorial integrity, full sovereignty and political independence.
UNSCR 1559 has been ignored by Syria, Iran, the UN, and the rest of the world. Had this been followed the current crisis would not have happened. The UN, again, is shown to be a Paper Tiger. Outside of raping local women what has any UN security force actually done?
These observers did not confront the evils of Hezbollah. Because of their own tolerance of Hezbollah’s build up to war, Hezbollah built a fire base next door to their observation post.
Those who refuse to stop evil die when evil starts doing evil things. Even the stupid UN.
Also, don’t forget that Hezbullah has killed over 300 Americans. They should have been targetted by the US military long ago.
