JEDDAH, 5 July 2006 — This isn’t the best way to win neither a girl’s heart nor the respect of her father.
A Saudi teen snapped a picture of the girl he had a crush on, then attempted to use it to ransom a date from her by threatening to post the picture on the Internet, the daily Al-Riyadh reported yesterday.
Instead of submitting to blackmail the girl complained to her father, who then complained to the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice [ed: the agency that runs the religious police]. The moral police agents apprehended the lecherous teen and found the image of the girl, taken as she was on her way to class, on his cellular phone.
Instead of winning the girl’s favor, the youth was sentenced to nine months in prison and 49 lashes.
This “morality squad” has long enjoyed wide and unchallenged powers. Its members roam public places, such as malls, markets and universities, looking for such infractions as unrelated men and women mingling in public, men skipping the five daily prayers and women with strands of hair showing from under their veil.
They’ve scolded salesmen for dressing elegantly, waiters for serving food with a smile and young women for carrying pictures of actors.
Some Saudis believe the commission plays a vital role in ensuring full compliance with the strict school of Islam.
OK, this bozo took this girl’s picture without her permission, and then he tried to blackmail her into going on a date with him. He’s a jerk.

But “lecherous”? That means “inordinate indulgence in sexual activity”. Taking a picture is now inordinate indulgence in sexual activity?
And 49 lashes? And nine months in prison? Just imagine if the boy had captured an upskirt photo of the girl. Then she would have been hanged. Ahhh, but the Moonbat Left in the US keep on preaching “diversity” and “multiculturalism”, saying that this is merely an equal expressions of our human variety. No, this is one more example of barbarism within Islam. Does anyone else see the complete disconnect between so much of Islam and the rest of civilization? |
