Seven bombs hit Bombay’s commuter rail network during rush hour Tuesday evening, killing at least 147 people and wounding more than 300 in what authorities called a well-coordinated attack. India’s major cities were put on high alert after the blasts, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called an emergency Cabinet meeting. The death toll spiralled after bombs ripped through packed train compartments. All the explosions took place in first class compartments of trains at a time when a majority of Mumbaikars were return home from office, railway control sources said.

A senior Bombay police official, P.S. Pasricha, said the explosions were part of a well-coordinated attack. Vilasrao Deshmukh, the chief minister of Maharashtra state, where Bombay is located, said bombs had caused all seven blasts.
The bombings in Bombay came hours after a series of grenade attacks by Islamic extremists killed people in the main city of India’s part of Kashmir. Six persons, including five tourists from West Bengal, were killed and 16 others injured in a series of grenade attacks by militants in different parts of the city. This was the sixth attack on tourists in the Kashmir valley since the beginning of the tourist season this year. Kashmir was divided between India and Pakistan in war after they gained independence from Britain in 1947, and they fought another full-scale conflict over the region in 1965. But even as the two countries have talked peace in the past two years, New Delhi has continued to accuse Pakistan of training, arming and funding the militants. Also understand that both Pakistan and India are known to have nuclear weapons. |
Soon after the attacks, police arrested members of Lashkar-e-Toiba, an Islamic group in India responsible for previous attacks in India. Global jihad or localized Kashmiri dispute? Is there a distinction anymore? Religion of Peace™?
Is there any historical evidence to ponder here?
- December 2, 2002: Two persons were killed and 31 injured in a powerful explosion in a bus. Banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) suspected.
- December 6, 2002: Twenty-five persons were injured in a bomb blast at McDonalds fast food restaurant.
- January 27, 2003: At least 30 persons were injured when a bomb planted on a bicycle went off throwing splinters of sharp nails outside Vile Parle railway station.
- March 13, 2003: A powerful bomb blast shattered a bogie of a local train at Mulund railway station in the peak hours killing 11 persons and injuring more than 65. Students Islamic Movement of India suspected again.
New York City beefed up its transit security Tuesday as the result of the deadly bombings of Bombay’s commuter rail network. The department said the measures were precautionary, and there had been no specific threats to New York.
Not an attack against a military. Not an attack against a government. Even the most high-strung Leftist Moonbat won’t be able to blame Bush for this. Maybe the all-powerful UN will officially say that “this was a bad thing”.
An attack against innocent civilians. The Islamic way. Religion of Peace™. We are witnessing World War III: Radical Islam vs. The Civilized Peoples of the World.
By the way, what are the options for unbelievers according to Islam?
