Sahih Muslim is one of the Sunni Six Major Hadith collections, collected by Imam Muslim. It is the second most famous hadith collection among Muslim. It is a collection of sayings and deeds of Prophet Muhammad also known as the sunnah. Muslim (full name Abul Husain Muslim bin al-Hajjaj al-Nisapuri) lived a couple of centuries after the Prophet’s death and worked extremely hard to collect his sayings and deeds (ahadith). Out of 300,000 ahadith which he evaluated, only 4,000 approximately were extracted for inclusion into his collection based on stringent acceptance criteria.
Sahih Muslim is divided into 42 books on different subjects, each book containing many ahadith. From Sahih Muslim Book 28, “The Book of Poetry (Kitab Al-Sh`ir)”, Number 5612, we learn the following:
