From FOXNews.com:

Rep. John Murtha, a 16-term Democrat from Pennsylvania, known for his close ties to the military and his outspoken opposition to the war in Iraq, said Friday he will run for House majority leader if Democrats win control in November.

From a recent comment by Murtha regarding the alledged crimes in Haditha: “Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”

Murtha, 73, wrote in a letter to Democratic colleagues that he would seek the post “if we prevail, as I hope and know we will, and return to the majority this next Congress.”

Democrats need to gain 15 seats to recapture the majority they lost to the Republicans in 1994.

There are only 145 days until the November 7 elections.

murtha Says General (retired) Louis C. Wagner , Jr., Vietnam veteran, in regards to Murtha:

“If we lose our will at home, it makes the task for our soldiers all the more difficult. I believe your comments were irresponsible and are contributing to the loss of national will. If they were made to obtain political advantages I would find that abhorrent and unworthy of a former Marine.”

“Sir, I’m mad. Because that is happening every day when I read the newspapers. I visit Walter Reed, and talk to the young soldiers with their legs blown off. I know you do too.”

“I can’t find one in a dozen that don’t believe that they are fighting for a noble cause and are fighting to go back. And I think it’s a disgrace when members of our congress, just as they did in 1975 when they sold out the South Vietnamese, are selling out our soldiers today in Iraq.”

Information about General (retired) Louis C. Wagner:
Combat Infantryman Badge,
Senior Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab,
Air Medal x2, Army Commendation Medal x3,
Legion of Merit x2, Bronze Star Medal,
Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal,
Distinguished Service Medal x2, Silver Star,

    Demonizing John Murtha: Priceless.

The guy’s spent more time in the US military than everyone in the Bush Administration combined. Maybe if those cowboys had actually ever seen combat, they would have set the bar higher for engaging in this ill-conceived, elective war. They *might* have understood what they were getting our soldiers into.
