Search engine Google has a variety of logos, called “Google Doodles”, commemorating holidays and events. Some of the events in 2006 where they’ve modified their logo:
- Happy New Year – January 1, 2006
- Louis Braille’s Birthday – January 4, 2006
- Martin Luther King Day – January 16, 2006
- 250th Birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – January 27, 2006
- Lunar New Year – January 29, 2006
- Winter Games: Torino 2006 – February 2006
- Birthday of Percival Lowell – March 13, 2006
- St. Patrick’s Day – March 17, 2006
- Persian New Year – March 21, 2006
- Mother’s Day – May 14, 2006
- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Birthday – May 22, 2006
Does anyone notice a holiday that is missing from their 2006 list? What about Memorial Day? Google chose not to recognize Memorial Day with an altered logo, as they do with many other holidays. Why? Just last week they paid tribute to Arthur Conan Doyle’s birthday. But Memorial Day doesn’t seem to rate anything at all.
Memorial Day 2005 didn’t rate a modified logo at Google either.
Ask.com and Dogpile both had special logos for Memorial Day. But not Google. So, starting today, this humble blog will feature a search link to Dogpile in the right sidebar (with your search result opening in a new browser window). I support those people and organizations that support those that gave the ultimate sacrifice to their country.
Surely recognizing our fallen warriors is just as important as remembering the Lunar New Year.

Beyond Blog and Art – Patriots and Paradign Shifts
