Common Folk Using Common Sense

From the Detroit Free Press:

A manager at a Detroit meatpacking plant said that 15 immigrant women were fired last month after attending a protest for immigrant rights. He said they had been told that they would be terminated if they missed work on the day of the protest. He said the workers had been told, “written and verbally,” on the Friday before the protests that their attendance was mandatory on the day of the protest.

But now a Detroit activist and about 20 union officials went to Wolverine Packing Co. offices to inquire about what happened. They are demanding that these undocumented workers get their jobs back. The next morning after the protest, when the women reported to work for their shifts as meat cutters, a supervisor told them to clean out their lockers and go home.

“It was not fair,’” said Mercedes, a 31-year-old Detroit woman who attended the rally and was fired. “We went to fight for our rights.” Mercedes is undocumented.

So let me get this straight:
- A protest rally was coming up in Detroit. They were protesting legislation that would make it a crime to “help” undocumented immigrants. By “help” we mean “employ”, “educate”, “give away healthcare”, “give away Social Security benefits”, “allow to vote”, etc. Basically they’re wanting “American” benefits without having to actually be “Americans”.
- The manager of a meat packing company told his employees to be at work and not to attend the protest, and that if they did they would be fired.
- The undocumented workers did not show up for work, instead going to the protest. By attending the protest they were demanding “employment”, “education”, “free healthcare”, “free Social Security benefits”, “allowed to vote”, etc. Basically they’re wanting “American” benefits without having to actually be “Americans”.
- The next day they discover that they no longer have a job. Duh.
- And here comes the Union Goon Squad. You see, the unions in America are dying. Nobody wants to be in a union. Nobody cares about unions. Their 15 minutes of fame are long gone. But they are eyeing 11 million new dues-paying members - the fact that they’re here illegally doesn’t seem to make any difference. I thought that union members were always supposed to be pro-America, but it seems I was mistaken.

Just imagine the outrage of both politicians and the media if 11 million undocumented Jewish settlers left Israel and entered the US illegally. America, thy name is Hypocrite.
