Jay Tea, writing at Wizbang, has uttered what I consider perhaps to be one of the most accurate metaphors for American politics. It was so good that I had to repeat it here.
He started talking about one of my pet peves – those nuts that drive in the fast lane on the highway yet drive at speeds well under what the people around them are driving. You know them. You’ve been stuck behind them. You’ve aimed a shotgun at them and threatened to blow out their rear window if they don’t move over to a slower lane.
I got stuck behind this twit who decided that she was going as fast as anyone should, and decided to camp out in the left lane. She didn’t care how many people lined up behind her; she was going to stay right where she was.
[Editor's Note: In the US the slowest traffic is in the right lanes, while the fastest traffic is in the left lanes, and we drive on the right side of the road while our steering wheels are on the left side of the car. You have to understand these facts for anything else to make sense.]
But then a light came on in the mind of Jay Tea and he suddenly discovered one of the magical Truths of the Universe.
As I trundled along fuming, it occurred to me that the highway I was on was a perfect metaphor for American politics. It’s OK to occasionally veer left, but you can’t stay there. The only people who stay on the left are the selfish, the arrogant, the stupid, and the insane.
