I live in far SE Houston and unless the census numbers have changed in the last couple of days, we are the only really large city on the Gulf Coast (2 million as of 2000 out of the US total of about 240 million - less than 1% by my calculation). My wife and I took the kids to Disney World over Christmas of \'04 and all I can say is that the Gulf Coast must have had a population explostion of epic proportions since then. Once I crossed over the Texas state line into Louisiana, I didn\'t see a whole lot of civiliation other than New Orleans (if you want to call it that; you can ask my buddy who was mugged and had a gun held to his head while holding his 2 year old if he would call it civilization.) until several miles after we turned south towards Orlando. Nothing but swamps, trees, and the occasional small city like Tallahassee. Very seemingly nice, laid-back but relatively small areas. But, man oh man, I swear that there is a rest stop every 30 miles or so - no exageration. Perfect for a trip with kids and a dad with a small bladder. If there is any population, they keep it very well-hidden from the interstate.

By the way, NO, thanks for all that spike in our crime and gang activity since a lot of you moved over here and are still bogarting our tax dollars. I know it\'s really the criminals that you sent over. It\'s them that are mostly the ones still sucking at the government teat. It\'s been 6 months now and I still see help wanted signs at the Burger King down the street.

Nagin is an idiot but our liberal media tried to make him into a hero. I wonder how much tax money to build those levees right went into his crooked pocket.

Fifty percent? Not even close.
