Jay Bryant, writer, veteran GOP media consultant, and author at Townhall.com, makes some interesting discoveries about both the cloture vote and confirmation vote surrounding Justice Alito.
All four Democrats who voted to confirm the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito yesterday hail from red states, while the lone Republican to vote against him comes from a blue state.
Now this is a bit of fresh air. It would seem here that the Senators are listening to the will of their constituents and not just toeing the party line. Of all the reasons to vote for or against Alito following the views of the people that elected you to office is, frankly, amazing considering the polarization of today’s politics.
But then Bryant makes a remarkable discovery:
… every potential Democratic Presidential candidate voted against cloture … Or to put it another way, Senators like those with presidential aspirations, who need left-wing money more than they need moderate voters (or at least BEFORE they need moderate voters), all voted against cloture.
Ahhh, so if your desire is to run for high office, like that of the Presidency, then an appeal to the wishes of your constituency is secondary to bowing to the agenda of the people that hold the most money. John Q. Public, back home, is no longer relevant, but George Soros or MoveOn.org is now your Master and Commander. Are you Senators more impressed with the voice of the people you’ve sworn to serve or are you more impressed with money? Forget I asked that.
Isn’t that like Prostitution?
