I’m at a loss for words here.

A day after Hamas swept to an upset victory in the Palestinian parliamentary elections, former US President Jimmy Carter on Thursday said that Wednesday’s voting had been orderly and fair.

Carter, who led an 85-member international observer team from around the world organized by the ‘National Democratic Institute’ in partnership with ‘The Carter Center,’ urged the international community to directly or indirectly fund the new Palestinian Government even though it will be led by an internationally-declared foreign terror organization.

“The Palestinian Government is destitute, and in desperate financial straits. I hope that support for the new government will be forthcoming,” Carter said at a Jerusalem press conference.

I’m not sure where to begin. Hamas, the largest and most powerful of the Palestinian terror organizations, which advocates Israel’s destruction, has carried out scores of bombings over the last five years of Palestinian violence, attacks which have killed hundreds of Israeli civilians. And a former President of the U.S. thinks this group, a group that has as one of its primary positions the total elimination of Israel, should now receive money from the rest of the world? Exactly when was it that Carter started actively hating Jews?

The Palestinian Government is destitute, and in desperate financial straits because every dime they have ever received was used to purchase weapons and mercenaries and not food or medicine.

As a former U.S. President you would think he knows a bit about U.S. law. But he seems to have forgotten that, according to the U.S. State Department:

It is unlawful for a person in the United States or subject to the jurisdiction of the United States to knowingly provide “material support or resources” to a designated FTO [Foreign Terrorist Organizations]. (The term “material support or resources” is defined in 18 U.S.C. § 2339A(b)(1) as ” any property, tangible or intangible, or service, including currency or monetary instruments or financial securities, financial services, lodging, training, expert advice or assistance, safehouses, false documentation or identification, communications equipment, facilities, weapons, lethal substances, explosives, personnel (1 or more individuals who maybe or include oneself), and transportation, except medicine or religious materials.”
