He Just Couldn’t Help Himself – He’s A Jerk

Actor George Clooney is a proud liberal. His most recent films have continued to spread his liberal ideology by embracing it and articulating it on the big screen. Move than just movies, Clooney is making statements through his films.

It didn’t take long for the Globes broadcast on NBC to get political, though the target was an easy one and the politics fell off dramatically immediately afterward.

During Monday night’s (01/16/2006) Golden Globe ceremony Clooney received tempered applause and laughter while accepting the first award of the night. He received an award for his performance as Best Supporting Actor in “Syriana”.

But instead of simply accepting his award, and maybe thanking a few co-workers or friends or loved ones, he gives us this quip about controversial Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff:

“I want to thank Jack Abramoff, you know, just because…I’m the first one out — let’s get this thing rolling. I don’t know why. Who would name their kid Jack with the last words ‘off’ at the end of your last name? No wonder that guy is screwed up. Ahh-alright I just got bleeped. Thank you very much…”

Why would Clooney want to thank Jack Abramoff? Probably because in his mind the conviction of Abramoff of conspiracy, fraud, and tax evasion, and the possibility that several Republican officials will also be named for corruption, will cause the Republicans to lose control of Congress.

Abramoff is a longtime associate of top GOP officials and was a top fundraiser for President Bush’s re-election. Many Republican and Democratic leaders – including Bush – have since returned campaign contributions they received from him.

The problem here is that while $1.04 million of Abramoff’s money went to Republicans, $760,000 went to Democrats. There will be fallout on both sides of the aisle with the Abramoff affair.

Then came Clooney’s “deft and sly” handling of Abramoff’s name. He thinks it’s funny of someone’s name starts with ‘Jack’ and ends with ‘off’. Jack Abramoff. Hmmm, ‘jack off’. That’s hilarious, George. I remember telling jokes like that before too … back when I was 12 years old.

Frank Abramoff, Jack’s father, wrote the following in a letter to Clooney and published by The Desert Sun:

Oh how far Hollywood has fallen. When you rose to accept the Golden Globes best actor award earlier this week, you decided to take a gratuitous slap at my son, my family and even my dear departed father. Is this the tradition of Gable, Bogart, Pacino and Burton? Are you the heir to the dignity and greatness of Hollywood’s past, or more likely a portent to a depressing and horrific future?

Your glib and ridiculous attack on my son, Jack, coupled with your obscene query as to the choice his mother and I made in naming him brought shame and dishonor on you and your profession. What drove you to this lapse in lucidity, I can never know, but you need to know that your words were deeply hurtful to many innocent and decent people — who love my son and who cherish our family.

The fact that you would spend those few moments accorded to you, as an honor for your work as an actor, bashing his name and his family, is astonishing. How do you sleep at night, other than, perhaps with the drink which you lamented not having at that early hour. Funny, it was very hard for us little people in television land to tell whether you had indulged in the bottle or not.

My son was named after my beloved departed father. His name, too, was Jack Abramoff. And, were he alive today, would be standing firmly behind his namesake, as his entire family and many more true friends than you will ever know.

Not that it matters to you, I am sure, but the worst part of your tirade is that it played out in front of many young people, including my sweet 12-year-old granddaughter, one of Jack’s five children. Jack did not waste his time watching the garbage spewing from your mouth, but his daughter did. You drove her to a fit of tears. Are you proud of that?

Clooney’s comment was insipid, crass, crude, and entirely political. The Leftist blogs are soaking it up with glee, much like pigs in a slop pen. Look forward to more of the same from Clooney. Watch for his films to be marketed as “blockbuster” when they are merely left-tilted moonbat propaganda. Clooney is Michael Moore with less blubber.

And as long as you understand that, then Clooney’s rantings and actions make some sense.

Cloony is a punk. He is the new Rosey Odonnel for this year. Here is a guy that barely got through high school and he wants us to listen to his take on world affairs. He prides himself with having bed every top Hollywood starlet, but quess what Georgie boy…you can’t screw us!
Maybe he can get another paycheck with Oceans 13, but I won’t being going to watch anymore of his movies!
